The Agricultural Advisory Center of Thua Thien – Hue Province held a conference in cooperation with the Center for Application of Science and Technological Advance of Thua Thien – Hue to implement the project “Development of Industrial Zone of Siganus Guttatus Agriculture”. Products along the value chain related to building the “Tam Giang scad” brand in Thua Thien – Hue Province.
The project aims to develop the area for commercial farming of Scads and create a chain of links from the supply of fish seed, feed, chemicals for commercial farming and product consumption. It is also a prerequisite for the successful establishment of a common brand “Tam Giang Scad”, which contributes to improve the quality and value of Scad products in Thua Thien – Hue Province.
Thua Thien – Hue has the Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon system, which stretches from the mouth of the O Lau River to the foot of the Vinh Phong Mountain with a length of about 68 km, the widest point is up to 10 km, forming a water body with a water surface of almost 22,000 ha.
Because of the geographical location, nature is very favorable for the development of many kinds of aquatic organisms, and the Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon system has formed a very rich and distinctive brackish water lagoon ecosystem.
Among the species of fish farmed today, the fish is endemic to the lagoon area of Thua Thien – Hue province. This is a type of agriculture with high economic value, but the link chain in the production and consumption activities is not yet clearly formed, mainly consumed by retail purchase through many middlemen and has not yet been established. Build a brand that consumers can recognize.
Mr. Ho Thang, director of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thua Thien – Hue Province, said that the successful construction and application of the production model, management organization, development and exploitation of Tam Giang’s “Speared Scad” collective brand plays a role major role in the production of typical and branded products of Thua Thien – Hue Province. Building the Tam Giang scorpion brand will help strengthen the identity of the scorpion fish, which is a special aquatic product of the lagoon, thereby enhancing the value and reputation of the “Tam Giang Leek” community trademark.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Giang, Deputy Director of Thua Thien Agricultural Advisory Center – Hue Province, clearly stressed the importance of building the “Tam Giang scad” brand for farmers.
Ms. Giang stressed that the successful project will become a model to replicate the construction of specialty seafood certification marks and collection marks under the specialty development project in Tam Giang Lagoon Area – Cau Hai of Thua Thien Project – Hue Province in 2021 – 2025.
The organization, management and development of collective brands for products of high socio-economic value directly affect the income and life of the population and contribute to the stability and development of the economy.
The Tam Giang – Cau Hai wetland is considered to be the “fish and shrimp bowl” of Vietnam. Most of the districts and cities in Thua Thien – Hue province have aquaculture areas in this lagoon. In which Phu Vang District has the largest agricultural area, accounting for more than 57%; Phu Loc district accounts for more than 21%; the rest are Huong Tra Town, Phong Dien, and Quang Dien districts.
Because of this potential and advantages, the Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon area has made many advances in aquaculture in recent years. Fish farming is one of the fisheries that bring high economic efficiency to the people living along the Tam Giang – Cau Hai Lagoon.
