citrus bonsai price increase 20-30%
Hung Yen is one of the northern provinces with the most flowers and ornamental plants (estimated at 1,200 ha). Of these, there are 800 ha of citrus trees (kumquats, oranges, tangerines…), the rest are traditional ornamental plants, phalaenopsis orchids and many other civic flowers such as chrysanthemum, peach, ornamental tea, poinsettia, needle primrose, betel nut, ten thousand lien thanh, most orchids Apricot… The flower and ornamental plant areas are mainly concentrated in Van Giang, Khoai Chau, Yen My, Kim Dong, Van Lam districts and My Hao city.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hoa, Cadastral Officer of Lien Nghia Municipality (Van Giang District) said that this year, like every year, the municipality still cultivates more than 100 hectares of all kinds of flowers and ornamental plants, including 75 hectares of ornamental kumquats and 28 hectares of grapefruits, 7 .5 hectares of oranges, lemons and 7 hectares of flowers of all kinds. So far, gardeners have sold almost 50% of the trees’ harvest, the price is about 30% higher than in the same period last year.
A novelty in the bonsai intensive profession here this year is that more than 70% of citrus trees are planted towards bonsai on pitchers, pitchers, angs, trusses, pots, bowls, jugs or in miniature materials ceramic, porcelain, crockery, stone, Cement.
Quyen – Ngoc Gardener in Quan Trach Village AB grows 400 kumquats and ornamental pomelos, but only 40 kumquat trees are planted in the field, the rest are grown on media in pots/pots of all kinds. By this time, Ms. Quyen has also sold almost 50% of her bonsai production, the price is 30-50% higher than the same period last year (depending on the variety). According to Ms. Quyen, bonsai have a high price, but the basic profit is still stable compared to last year because the labor and production costs have increased in proportion to the selling price this year.
Gardener Nguyen Cuong in the same municipality of Lien Nghia has planted 0.4 ha of citrus trees and has just sold half of the area to customers, but the trees sold are still kept in the garden because they have to take care of them until early December. New traders come back to pick up goods. Mr. Nguyen Cuong said that every year about 2 months before the Lunar New Year, traders visit and buy ornamental plants, then photograph some trees, take a clip of the garden, then rent a garden (point of sale) and advertise online, both to sell online and to let buyers know where to buy.
Garden house Dang-Chi in Binh Minh (Khoai Chau) has over 1,000 m2 of bonsai trees and now traders have come to deposit more than 50% of the production, the selling price is about 20% higher than the same period last year. Mr. Dang said basically the beautiful and eye-catching orchards here are now being bought by merchants.
The price of ornamental plants in Khoai Chau is lower than in Van Gang, because the area of Van Giang district is closer to Hanoi market and has a long tradition of producing bonsai, so it is known and easy in many places in the country for sale at a reasonable price.
With the high-end flower market (lily, tulip, phalaenopsis), Dr said up 10-15% year-on-year. according to dr Province, our country’s consumer demand for Phalaenopsis orchids alone currently needs about 9 million flowers, but domestic production only meets about 30% of the demand, the rest needs to be imported from China.
At present, China is still strictly controlling the Covid-19 epidemic, so the source of orchids imported from China will face difficulties. On the other hand, our country’s consumers love country orchids because the flower season is longer (nearly 3 months). Chinese phalaenopsis orchids are more beautiful but much less durable, the flower buds near the tips of the branches are often blind (do not bloom), so domestic phalaenopsis orchids are likely to rise sharply in price this year’s Tet holiday,” said Dr Province.
HImpressive traditional flower short-term civilian use wait for the price
Unlike the citrus market, the ornamental flowers, civil flowers and short-term ornamental plants market is still fairly quiet, sometimes people come to gardeners to buy and sell retail at the country market. The Vietnamese Lani gardener (Phung Cong commune, Van Giang) lamented that every year at this time of year, many traders rushed here to “eat food”, but this year they sat all day to get a few small transactions . Hopefully next month buyers will be overflowing…
Horticulturist Hoang Anh (with Phung Cong commune) evaluated that, in general, traditional ornamental plants such as ornamental flower tea, wood incense, and locally produced short-term ornamental plants such as dahlias, coins, betel nut and night nests Thao, Da Minh Chau…all booth prizes this year. That is, this year the profit from planting these trees is decreasing because most of the materials for production have increased very sharply, from 50% to 100%.
“It can be a short-term ornamental, playing for a short time, so consumers are waiting for the New Year to buy it beautifully. As for the traditional perennial bonsai, the price is quite high, not essential, players who do not buy this year will buy another year,” gardener Hoang Anh said.
Especially in Truc Linh Garden House in Phung Cong Municipality, currently mainly ornamental plants (jewelry, lipstick, pink phoenix, cypress bamboo…) are imported from the southern provinces, with new flower and leaf colors, that is, the number of flowers and leaves is new The sales volume was better, the price was also 10-15% higher than in the previous month.
As for chrysanthemums, Mr. Nguyen Van Khuong said in Chinh Nghia commune (Kim Dong), local chrysanthemum prices are still stable but would certainly increase more or less near Tet, partly because the price of chrysanthemums is very affordable, partly because chrysanthemums are auspicious as childlike flowers, needed in the last days of the year or with childlike duties like the lunar calendar, the week, the full moon, the grave… Especially because of the custom of faith, no family should be without chrysanthemum blossoms on the ancestral altar on New Year’s Day. In addition to high production costs, this year’s chrysanthemum market is expected to grow by 30-50%.
“This whole community is planting about 30 hectares of all kinds of chrysanthemums, an increase of 10 hectares compared to 2021, the planting is concentrated in Ta Ha village. The harvested products are mainly sold to the Hanoi market through traders,” Mr. Khuong added.
In the decorative peach blossom market segment, Mr. Le Manh Hung, former secretary of the Party Committee of Gia Xuyen Township (Hai Duong City), commented that the price of peach blossom for the popular class may be less volatile this year Most of the northern provinces/cities have peach orchards for local and neighboring consumption. However, the old peach lines, beautiful and strange peaches will still have high prices because the buyers of this flower line are from the high-income class.
“Hai Duong City is a field for all kinds of ornamental excavations with a total planting area of nearly 100 hectares in Hai Tan District and Gia Xuyen Township. Besides supplying Tet peach blossoms to the local market, they also sell to the central provinces and Ho Chi Minh City,” said Mr. Le Manh Hung.
Sharing the same opinion as Mr. Hung, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien also said that the peach blossom market in Tet will not see large price fluctuations this year. Since the soil of flowers and ornamental plants is very rich and diverse in our country, people have more choices. Therefore, it is difficult for peach growers to push prices up significantly, but production is still quite profitable. Since most households have a large proportion of old peach trees, agricultural efficiency is very high.
