2022 is the seventh consecutive year that the Vietnam Sustainable Business Assessment and Publicity (CSI) program is led and organized by the VCCI in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Labour, Disability and Welfare Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the program has received a wide response and participation from the business community across the country, regardless of size and field of activity.
From the records of companies registered to participate, the organizing committee selected 148 documents for the council to review, assess and submit to the steering committee to decide on the top 100 sustainable companies to be commended at the ceremony.
In the top 10 sustainable enterprises in trade-services and manufacturing, the share of state-funded enterprises, Vietnamese enterprises and foreign-funded enterprises is 40%, 25% and 35%, respectively.
In addition to recognizing the main category of sustainable companies, the program also evaluates and selects pioneering companies that perform well in three thematic categories: promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality in the workplace; Conduct business responsibly and respect the rights of children in business; Implementing a circular economy model to help respond to climate change.
The 2022 CSI Sustainable Business Index, which is also used as the basis for assessing corporate sustainability this year, has been updated with 130 indicators, 68% of which are indicators related to legal compliance requirements – mandatory for all companies, 32 % are indicators of sustainable business initiatives.
This shows that simply by being well compliant with the law, companies can lay a solid foundation for the development of sustainable production and business activities.
In the opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of VCCI, Chairman of VBCSD, Deputy Chairman of the Steering Committee of the CSI 2022 Program, shared that in addition to the positive response from the companies, the CSI Index and the program received great recognition from the government for its effectiveness and positive impact in promoting sustainable business development.
In particular, in important government guidelines on sustainable development, such as Directive No. 13/CT-TTg of May 20, 2019, Decision No. 1362/QD-TTg of October 11, 2019 approving the Sustainable Development Plan for private corporate sector until 2025 with a vision to 2030 or a set of Government Resolutions 02 (formerly Resolution 19/NQ-CP) on key tasks and solutions to improve the business environment, improve national competitiveness, etc. are all integrated with requirements to continue implementation of the program for evaluation and publication more sustainable companies and expanding the use of the VCCI’s CSI indicators in the future.
In addition, the CSI 2022 program saw nearly 25% of new companies participating for the first time, showing that more and more companies are interested in the program in particular and sustainable development in general.
The results of the profile assessment of companies in 2022 reached the highest average value compared to previous years, showing that the integration and implementation of the sustainable business management model in companies has made remarkable progress, and at the same time the work of information gathering and reporting was also more effective.
Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, member of the Politburo and head of the Central Economic Commission, said in his speech that sustainable development is a strategic direction and an indispensable choice for the business world’s development model.
He suggested that Vietnamese companies and entrepreneurs should further encourage their initiative, creativity and flexibility; strengthen cooperation, connect to create overall strength; transform entrepreneurial thinking into responsible action, create economic growth in line with environmental and social benefits…
Also at the announcement ceremony, VCCI Chairman Pham Tan Cong officially launched the Sustainable Business Assessment and Announcement Program in Vietnam in 2023, emphasizing: Sustainable business will create a better world than. Sustainable, responsible management is the basis for groundbreaking and successful development and the key to increasing the competitiveness of companies.
