On December 7, 2022, the Office of the Energy Conservation Steering Committee in cooperation with the Vietnam Journalists Association held the 2022 Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Propaganda Journalism Award ceremony in Hanoi. Accordingly, this year there are 38 winning works from 38 press agencies and media.

In addition to the energy transition, the economical and efficient use of energy is one of the important pillars that the Ministry of Industry and Trade uses to contribute to the realization of the Net-Zezo target by 2050 according to the commitment of the Vietnamese government at the COP26.

The party and state recognized the importance of economical and efficient use of energy very early on by promulgating legal framework conditions for economical and efficient use of energy. Specifically, the law on economical and efficient use of energy has been passed since 2010 and has been in force since 2011.

The National Program for Conservation and Efficient Use of Energy (VNEEP) implemented over the period 2006-2015 saved over 16 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE). The National Program for Economical and Efficient Use of Energy for the Period 2019–2030 (VNEEP3), aiming to save 5–7% of the total national energy consumption in the period up to 2025 and to achieve 8–10% for the entire period from 2019 to 2030.

The VNEEP3 program implements activities in the field of economical and efficient use of energy nationwide. An important role is played by propaganda and communication activities aimed at raising the awareness of the community, companies and society as a whole for the responsibility and benefits of economical and efficient use of energy and energy-saving solutions.

The organizers awarded 01 special prize, 04 A prizes, 08 B prizes, 12 C prizes, 13 consolation prizes to 38 authors and author groups with the best works. The total prize value reached 283 million VND.

The price of the propaganda press for economical and efficient use of energy is one of the communication activities within the framework of the VNEEP3 program. The aim of the prize is to raise awareness of society’s responsibility for the efficient and economical use of energy and at the same time to recognize outstanding authors and works that are typical of the economical and efficient use of energy, both at a central and municipal level It’s time to improve the quantity and quality of propaganda work on the economical and efficient use of energy in the mass media.

At the award ceremony, Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim – Head of the Office of the Energy Conservation Steering Committee, Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Commerce) emphasized: “Following the success of the program The Ministry of Industry and Commerce extending from 2006 contacted VNEEP to date, appreciates the role of the media. The Department of Industry and Trade has identified the press as an information tool and a very effective propaganda tool to bring governmental management mechanisms and policies related to the economical and efficient use of energy to the public, people and businesses and to help the community to properly perceive them and act in a consensus-oriented manner in the implementation. The strong participation of press agencies, reporters and journalists shows the great interest of the population, the general public and companies in the economical and efficient use of energy.

After more than 3 months since the launch, the organizing committee has received hundreds of works submitted to participate in the award in all modes including: print press, electronic newspaper, radio and television. Notably, this year’s award also appeared for work in new types of journalism such as long form, e-magazine, infographic, podcast…

Through various forms, the authors have presented practical content for dissemination and encouraged the community to raise awareness of energy conservation and efficiency. Many works are of good quality and reflect timely advanced examples in the application of energy-saving solutions; Facilities, construction works, research into economical and efficient use of energy.

Assessing the quality of this year’s works, Mr. Tran Thai Son, deputy chief of the professional affairs department of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said this year’s works have increased both in quantity and quality. The works participating in the award include news, reflections, interviews, seminars, commentaries, papers, reports, research reports, press signatures in the form of print press, radio, television, electronic media.

The works have detailed energy saving problems and solutions with high creativity, attracting readers. Through its work, it has helped bring about positive changes in people’s, businesses’ and governments’ awareness of the use and conservation of energy.

As an entity that has accompanied the award for 12 years, Electricity of Vietnam’s representative – Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy Director General said that the award has spread widely in the community, making an effective contribution to economic propaganda and efficient energy use.
