According to the Hai Lang District Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, due to the influence of the cold air wave from Feb. 15 to 17, Hai Lang district sustained heavy rains, flooding many low-lying rice fields.

As of 5:00 p.m. on February 16, the entire district has been flooded with over 1,968 hectares of rice in the branching period; Some dike lines covering low-lying areas through Hai Dinh and Hai Duong communities were flooded.

Faced with the above situation, the Hai Lang District People’s Committee has ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement plans with farmers to respond proactively.

The Hai Lang District Agricultural Sector has stepped up inspection of the flooding situation in the fields and arranged on-duty people to promptly regulate the opening and closing of the water; mobilize maximum resources to reduce the period of waterlogging; Plan dyke protection proactively, strengthen important dyke sections, raise the level of flooded dyke sections; Zoning and strengthening of the banks and waterlogging in the area according to actual conditions.

Currently, the irrigation units, the pumps continue to work at 100% capacity of the electric pumping stations and mobilize over 50 oil pumps to serve drainage.

Due to the high water level of the rivers, the drainage works are encountering difficulties.

As of 10 a.m. on February 17, over 1,346 hectares of rice are still flooded throughout the district.
