According to the Lam Dong Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the price of silkworm cocoons in the province is currently VND222,000/kg. At this price, local silkworm breeders make a profit of 100,000 – 120,000 VND/kg of cocoons.
Accordingly, the selling price of silkworm cocoons in Bao Lam district is 220,000 VND/kg, and silkworm cocoons in Da Teh district are 180,000 VND/kg, both increased by 5,000 VND/kg. Specifically, the price of silkworm cocoons in Lam Ha district is VND222,000/kg, an increase of VND2,000/kg compared to the end of February.
Before that, around 2021, the mulberry cultivation industry in Lam Dong faced many difficulties due to the influence of the Covid-19 epidemic. By early 2022, the market gradually recovered, so the price of silkworm cocoons in Lam Dong gradually rose again, reaching VND190,000-200,000/kg.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong Province, there are currently over 60 cooperatives, cooperative groups and 5 handicraft villages throughout the province, which cultivate mulberries and raise silkworms with nearly 10,000 hectares of mulberry trees.
Mulberry cultivation is mainly concentrated in Lam Ha, Duc Trong, Da Teh and Da Huoai districts. Mulberry leaf production is estimated at almost 200,000 tons/year, cocoon production is over 13,000 tons/year, silk production is over 1,500 tons/year.
