The Lychee Market will be held for two days (May 27-28) in the Ecopark Urban Area, Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province, and will include 50 stalls selling fresh lychee products and typical products of different brands. Cooperatives and gardeners in Hung Yen Province to introduce domestic and foreign consumers to Hung Yen lychees and Pho Hien country typical products.
180,000 VND/kg still “sold out”
Hung Yen has long been known for its longan products. However, by harnessing the stimuli of nature, particularly the fertile alluvial soil of the Red River, this place has transformed the structure of crops and developed high-tech agriculture in a sustainable manner.
Hung Yen not only offers caged longan, but also a variety of fruits and high-quality agricultural products such as pink pepper bananas (Khoai Chau district), oranges, longan honey, Dong Tao chicken…
The 50 stalls introducing, displaying and selling Hung Yen lychee and hybrid lychee at the start of the season were eagerly attended by growers, households and cooperatives in Hung Yen’s lychee-growing areas.
Hung Yen Lychee Cooperative’s Egg Lychee Display Stand is centrally located at the entrance. On the opening day of the lychee market, this cooperative brought more than two hundredweight, by the end of the morning all these lychees were sold. The price of lychee is up to VND 180,000/kg, but many customers come to buy them.
When Nguyen Thi Tam (Hung Yen Egg Lychee Cooperative) invited guests to taste fruit and buy lychees to support gardeners, he smiled and said, “Hung Yen Egg Lychee is very special, its size is like that when ripe big like a fruit. Chicken eggs.” , many are larger than eggs. Lychee eggs have a thin shell, bright red color, sweet aroma and 20-22 fruits per kg.
Handing me a fresh, bright red lychee, Ms. Tam was proud and teased, “This lychee costs more than VND 10,000, try enjoying it and see if there’s a difference.”
To validate the offer, the Hung Yen Lychee Cooperative also placed a basket of eggs on the table alongside the bundles of succulent lychees as evidence.
Ms. Minh Hoa (a resident of Ecopark Urban Area) who came to this special fabric market couldn’t hide her excitement. Ms. Hoa directly bought selected fresh lychee bundles just brought from the gardener, marked with geographical indications, barcodes and local quality certifications, 10kg for her family to gradually eat and prepare food. Gifts, gifts for friends, relatives…
“When it comes to lychees, we often think of Hai Duong or Bac Giang lychees. But from now on, consumers will know and remember two types of Hung Yen farmers’ products, namely egg lychee and hybrid lychee. “With favorable soil and climate conditions as well as the agricultural experience of Hung Yen farmers, the early maturing hybrid lychees from Phu Cu and the egg lychees from Hung Yen are in demand among consumers,” said the vice-proprietor and chairman of the People’s Committee of Hung Province Yen, Mr. Nguyen Hung Nam spoke at the fair.
Phu Cu early hybrid lychee brand
No less than An Thi-Ei lychee, hybrid lychee “emerges” as a specialty of the people of Phu Cu (Hung Yen) district.
Vice Chairman of Phu Cu District People’s Committee Mr. Vu sorts. lychee
In Phu Cu, each gardener owns an average of one to three hectares of hybrid lychee. In large households there are up to several dozen fabric patterns.
“Phu Cu early-ripening lychee and Hung Yen egg lychee have been awarded trademark certificates by the National Intellectual Property Bureau. The specialized growing areas of this variety are Phu Cu and An Thi with a total planting area of more than 1,000 hectares and a production of over 12,700 tons. “Many co-ops and lychee growers have been given growing area codes to allow export to the US and Japanese market,” said Mr. Thuy.
Gardener Dang Hoai Nam (Tam Da Village, Tam Da Township, Phu Cu District) has 1 sample of hybrid lychee. In 2022, Mr. Nam’s family harvested 5 tons of fruit, earning more than VND100 million.
“This year the production is only 80% compared to last year, but the price at the beginning of the season is VND 40,000/kg. Our people are looking forward to a bountiful lychee season,” said Nam’s wife.
Mr. Nam’s gardener brought more than two hundredweight of fruit to the lychee market. By the end of the morning, the amount of lychee and fruit he and his wife had sold had already been sold.
Likewise, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh’s gardener has three samples of early maturing hybrid lychee. This is one of the most famous garden houses in Phu Cu. Participating in this year’s Lychee Fair, each gardener in Phu Cu brought two to three hundredweights of lychee fruit to the booth for sale and introduction of the products. People are expecting this year’s lychee harvest, although the yield is not as good as last year, but the quality and selling price are higher, which will bring good income.
The entire Phu Cu district has more than 750 hectares of early lychee cultivation land, of which over 80% of the area has been harvested. Soil and climatic conditions have helped the early maturing hybrid lychee grown on the land of Phu Cu to have outstanding advantages: the harvest timing is 2 to 3 weeks earlier than the peak season lychee.
The advantage of early ripening, as well as the bright, beautiful design and characteristic sweet taste, have made Phu Cu early-ripening hybrid lychee an agricultural product that appeals to the tastes of many customers. More specifically, the early-ripening hybrid lychee product Phu Cu has been awarded a trademark certificate by the National Intellectual Property Office and has been awarded a 3-star OCOP product rating by the People’s Committee of Hung Yen Province.
In order to build a brand of early hybrid lychee, Phu Cu District has focused on instructing and guiding farmers to produce early hybrid lychee according to VietGAP standards and register OCOP products, trade promotion and lychee consumption. Early maturation is beneficial special interest for the district people’s committee.
