The history of growing vegetables in a closed house is no longer alien to the farmers in Tuyen Quang. This model was developed and effectively used by the young engineer Nguyen Viet Lam in Khang Nhat Township, Son Duong District, Tuyen Quang Province.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Lam shared to produce vegetables by hydroponic method in a closed house without using soil, isolate all sources of pests and diseases, control the nutrient content of vegetables, save production area, produce and completely use no pesticides , safe for users. The 5,000 m2 membrane house system is designed to grow melons, cucumbers and vegetables with aluminum frames, plastic roofs, surrounding netting, automatic irrigation systems and temperature and humidity sensors.
After almost 2 months of trial planting, his first vegetable beds were harvested in July 2018 with good quality, beautiful design and food safety. So far, an average of 45 days in the garden for 1 litter, 1.5 tons of vegetables of all kinds are harvested. With an average price of VND 25,000/kg for all vegetables and fruits, Lam’s vegetable garden is available in supermarkets in Hanoi, Vinh Yen City (Vinh Phuc) and Tuyen Quang City.
Towards professional business, in July 2018, Lam decided to set up Son Duong Green Farm One Member Co., Ltd. to found. The company’s vegetable products are registered and have traceability stamps to ensure food hygiene and safety.
Following the success of Nguyen Viet Lam, the indoor vegetable growing movement in Tuyen Quang is increasingly thriving, bringing steady income to many owners. So far, there are 7 indoor vegetable growing models throughout Tuyen Quang Province. Known as a role model in Phu Luu Township, Ham Yen District; Model in Kim Binh Township, Chiem Hoa District; Model located in Truong Sinh Township, Son Duong District, covering an area of more than 1,000m2… Many models have been recognized as VietGAP standards, many products have received OCOP stars.
The model of vegetable cultivation in a closed house of a young man, Nguyen Hoang Anh, born in 1990 in Nong Tien District, Tuyen Quang City, has only been implemented since 2021. In order to save maximum investment capital, Hoang Anh only hires welders .for the iron mesh house frame.
Hoang Anh managed the remaining items alone. Each net house is designed with a height of 3.5 m; The roof and the surrounding area are enclosed with an anti-insect mesh that ensures ventilation but effectively resists rain and wind; Enough light, effectively prevent mice and insects… The net house is used by Hoang Anh to experiment with Japanese cucumber varieties and baby cucumbers.
Nguyen Hoang Anh said that growing melons in a closed house has an automatic irrigation system, which limits nursing work, easily controls the nutritional regime, and saves water for irrigation. The melon varieties in the garden are grown in summer, harvested from 3-4 crops/year, with a price of VND 25,000/kg. As vegetables grown towards hydroponics are fairly safe and yield good quality, the produce is consumed with almost no residue until harvest.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, director of the Quality Management Subdivision of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tuyen Quang, said the indoor vegetable growing model helps growers to effectively apply scientific and technical advances in handling the irrigation system, fertilization, weeding.
Although these models have high capital costs, they can free up labour, actively increase productivity and minimize the use of pesticides, which are harmful to both the environment and human health.
Guiding young people to start a business, Tuyen Quang’s Agroforestry and Fisheries Quality Control Department and related industries always create favorable conditions for units to carry out product certification procedures. Support traceability registration registration mechanism and policy, as well as OCOP star recognition.
The indoor vegetable-growing models by young people in Tuyen Quang have both helped shape Tuyen agriculture, increasing incomes, providing jobs for workers, and greatly promoting the application of science and technology in agricultural production.
