SON LA With the current selling price of VND 50,000-60,000/kg, the net house cultivation model of Korean melons brings farmers revenues of VND 1.65-1.75 billion/ha.

Over the years, the state has instituted and implemented many specific mechanisms and policies to attract investment in high-tech agricultural production; Supporting companies and farmers in high-tech agricultural production. In particular, the attractiveness of investment for agriculture, especially high-tech agriculture, has long enjoyed many incentives.

In fact, supportive measures to develop high-quality and safe vegetable production have been implemented quite well, but have not yet focused on the consumption phase of the product. There are few, weak and unstable companies investing in purchasing and processing. On the other hand, the connection of the domestic market currently presents an asymmetry problem, leading to a local surplus, where there is no need, where there is no circulation, the phenomenon of oversupply of agricultural products still exists.

Aiming at using information technology in building a chain model for the production of high-quality, uniform and high-quality commercial vegetables, suitable for the investment conditions of farmers in some northern provinces, the Technology Transfer and Agricultural Extension Center ( The Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences has implemented the agricultural expansion project “Building a model for high-quality vegetable production using information technology to connect supply and demand in some areas. Northern Province”.

The project has been implemented in many models in the northern region, including a 1.5 ha scale model of Korean melon production in the farming town of Moc Chau (Moc Chau District, Son La) in the spring harvest. Summer 2023. The initial goal of the project is to build a 1.5 ha model of fragrant melons with a yield of ≥30 tons/ha/crop; Products with beautiful design, good quality, meet food safety and hygiene standards.

At a time when prices of many agricultural products are falling, the Korean melon price bodes well for Son La farmers to continue farming in the coming seasons. Photo: Quang Linh.

Thanks to the positive feedback from farmers, the model has achieved many results that go beyond the original goal. In particular, the Korean melon variety is cultivated in a net house with a growing period of 75-80 days for harvest, the yield is 33-35 tons/ha, the current selling price is 50,000-60,000 VND/kg. Farmers in the model achieve a turnover of 1.65-1.75 billion VND/ha.

All products of the model are supported for consumption. The implementation project has supported people in production techniques, especially in the training and introduction of the application of the information technology portal to connect supply and demand. By registering on the portal that connects supply and demand, the households participating in the model know how to publish and present existing products and how to contact companies to buy and consume products.

After three years, the project “Building high-quality vegetable production models using information technology to connect supply and demand in some northern provinces” has achieved many remarkable achievements, such as: asymmetry and local redundancy, which ensure the information between the raw material area and the consumption market by establishing information channels for the consumption of agricultural products and raw materials.

In addition, the use of plant products will be diversified to meet society’s production and consumption needs, thus helping to improve people’s lives in high-tech vegetable growing areas, as well as areas specializing in organic or safe vegetable growing.
