Mr. Vu Hong Long, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Di Linh (Lam Dong) District, said local farmers are now starting to harvest macadamia. Folk fresh macadamia products are currently purchased by traders, factories and processors at prices ranging from VND 70,000 to VND 110,000/kg. The price of shelled skullcap seeds ranges from VND 210,000 to VND 320,000/kg.
Macadamia growers in Lam Ha (Lam Dong) district have also started the harvest season. Mr. Le Van Tu, a producer and trader of macadamia nuts in Tan Van Township (Lam Ha District), said fresh macadamia nuts are bought from processing plants at VND 85,000-90,000/kg. At that price, after deducting costs, 1 ha of macadamia trees yielded a large profit.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, director of Hoang Anh Maca Co., Ltd (Don Duong District, Lam Dong), the entity currently buys 2 to 3 tons of fresh macadamia from households in the area every day at a price of VND85,000. – 90,000 VND/kg.
Macadamia cultivation began in Lam Dong in 2006. Currently, the province has about 8.5 thousand hectares of macadamia with a production of over 3 thousand tons. Macadamia nuts are now cultivated in many districts of Don Duong, Lam Ha, Duc Trong, Di Linh, Bao Lam, Dam Rong, Lac Duong, Da Lat and Bao Loc. According to the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center, the local average macadamia yield is around 1.5 tons/ha/year.
