At the event, Deputy Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee Y Giang Gry Nie Knong said the area until now durian Dak Lak province over 15,000 hectares, is the country’s second largest durian area province after Tien Giang province, the estimated harvest in 2022 is 170,000 tons, and the estimated production until 2025 is over 300,000 tons.
According to Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, the signing of Durian Export Protocol is an opportunity to organize the development of Vietnam’s durian industry towards modernity, quality, safety, sustainability and close linkages from production to consumption market. is an opportunity to improve efficiency and increase the value of Vietnamese durian in the international arena.
However, this is also a major challenge as the contents of the protocol are essentially technical requirements that manufacturers, packers and exporters have to meet.
“Organizing the export announcement ceremony for the first shipment of durian under the protocol proved that the quality of Vietnamese durian products has been improved,” affirmed Mr. Y Giang Gry Nie Knong.
The Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee has recognized this opportunity and instructed specialized agencies and authorities at all levels from provincial to local to urgently support the procedures at the request of the Chinese side and create conditions for the procedures to be completed.
Provincial leaders said that as a result, Dak Lak was approved by the General Customs Administration of China with 04 durian packing plant codes and 23 planting area codes (accounting for 45% of the approved planting area codes nationwide) covering an area of 1,500 ha (equivalent to 18.3% of the durian harvesting area in the Province).
Previously, the General Department of Customs of China approved 76 codes of growing areas and codes of Vietnamese durian packing plants authorized for export to that country, of which 25 were packed. At present, Vietnamese durian has many advantages with price being competitive and quality rising. Before that, China has tried many times to cultivate high-quality durian in provinces such as Yunnan, Guangxi, Hainan, but has not been successful.
Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show that durian exports reached US$84.38 million in the first 6 months of the year, up 90.2% from the same period last year. Exports to China reached US$2.86 million, up 123%.
