Recently, the Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetables (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences) held a workshop on a model of hybrid pepper production in cooperation with the Farmers’ Association of Van Thuy Municipality in Chi Lang (Lang Son) district. HP6 Hope, deployment of the spring-summer 2023 harvest.
Mr. Hoang Van Bac, a household in Van Thuy Municipality who grows chili directly in the model, said the HP6 hybrid pepper variety has superior advantages over the have control Disease, long fruit shape, only natural, bright red ripe, beautiful, large fruit stalk, durable, easy to collect and transport. The quality of chili is very hot. The actual yield is about 2.2 to 2.4 tons of fruit/1,000 m² (about 1.5 quintals more than the control).
Mr. Hoang Van Thanh, head of Ban Du Village (Van Thuy Municipality), planted 1,000 m² of HP6 hybrid peppers and also achieved good results, in line with Mr. Bac’s household. Mr. Thanh said that the weather fluctuated very much this year, the control variety died quite frequently, especially the HP6 hybrid pepper fields did not die, the average yield per tree was about 145 fruits. Chili is bought by traders at a high price and is easy to sell thanks to its quality and beautiful design.
Master Hoang Minh Chau (Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute) said that the HP6 hybrid pepper is a promising heavenly fruit-only variety selected and bred by the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute. It is resistant to fungal wilt disease Phytophthora capsici caused under field conditions. The yield potential of the pepper hybrid HP6 is high and well adapted to many ecological regions in the north.
In fact, the HP6 hybrid peppers in the model yield 7-9 cm long fruits, fruits with a diameter of 0.9-1.1 cm, green fruits that turn bright red when ripe, suitable for fresh consumption or processing. Domestic market and export accepted. Chili varieties give an average of 120-150 fruits/plant, the average yield is 20-25 tons/ha (corresponds to the control variety, but no wilt disease, better fruit quality, higher price).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoan, chairperson of the Van Thuy Commune Farmers’ Association, suggested that by bringing together the opinions of farmers in the region, all people would like to buy or support HP6 hybrid peppers to plant for the next harvest.
“The community’s total annual chili acreage is nearly 30 hectares, grown in fields at the foot of the mountains, along rivers and streams, rich in nutrients, with high soil moisture. “Faced with hot and humid weather and lots of rain, farmers here are in dire need of hot pepper varieties with good wilt resistance, high yield and high and stable fruit quality like HP6 hot peppers,” she said.
