The Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee has just decided to resume operations at the Lo Co Chin Opening and Muong Khuong Border Gate in Muong Khuong District.

Previously, from 2020, Muong Khuong Border Gate and Lo Co Chin Opening were closed to prevent Covid-19.

After a long period of closure, this place is expected to resume operations from July 27, 2023: opening of Lo Co Chin in Pha Long Township, Muong Muong District – Lao Kha (Ha Khau, China) and Muong Khuong (Vietnam) – Kieu Dau (China) Border Gate to meet the needs of border residents on both sides.

The chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee instructed the Muong Khuong District People’s Committee to actively disseminate the contents of the restoration of the activities of the two sides’ border residents at the Muong Khuong Border Gate and the opening of Lo Co Chin in order to inform people of and comply with immigration regulations, guidelines for border residents and other relevant laws.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lao Cai Province also instructed the Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone to actively discuss with the Board of Directors of Ha Khu Border Gate (China) the contents related to the restoration of border residents at Muong Khuong Border Gate and Lo Co Chin Gate; Taking primary responsibility for the management of the Muong Khuong Border Gate and the Pha Long Border Patrol Station, and coordinating with the forces involved in organizing the restoration of border residents’ cross-border activities.

According to the Lao Cai Customs Bureau, the total number of companies involved in customs procedures throughout the entity was 492 companies by mid-June 2023, an increase of 59 companies compared to the same period in 2022. The total number of registrations reached 25,486, an increase of 14,152 registrations compared to the same period in 2022.

However, the import-export turnover only reached US$589 million, down 16.38% from the same period in 2022. During this period, the export reached US$402 million, down 13.3%; Imports reached 187 million USD.

The main export items include: yellow phosphorus, peeled wood, agricultural products, confectionery, etc.; Main imports: fertilizers, coke, clothing, confectionery, agricultural products of all kinds…

It is known that although the number of declarations has increased sharply, it is mainly agricultural products, so the turnover is not large, while the commodity group has a large turnover volume and mainly contributes to taxes such as machinery and equipment; Phosphorus… fell sharply, so the turnover of import and export procedures at Lao Cai Customs fell sharply compared to the same period last year.

A Lao Cai Customs official said trade activity in the region, particularly fruit exports from Vietnam, improved somewhat in the early months of 2023.

This result is partly due to the supportive work of customs and officials, particularly the efforts of the business community as China resumed import and export activities.
