Heaven – Earth benefits

According to Mr. Tran Cong Hoa, director of Bac Kan’s planning and investment department, the site is discussing the construction of large concentrated cattle breeding areas toward domestic meat processing and export.

This goes hand in hand with the attraction to the field of animal feed processing. Currently, Bac Kan Province is also moving in this direction, thereby increasing budget revenue. The province does not encourage the opening of livestock-only farms, both potential pollution risks and limited revenue from land leases and taxes due to preferential policies on agricultural production.

Bac Kan is very favorable for development in this area, specifically: Bac Kan Province has a large natural land area, few people, with nearly 90% of the natural land area being hills and forests; Bac Kan Province is just more than 100km from the industrial center and major metropolitan area of Bac Kan such as Hanoi, Thai Nguyen more than 40km, Bac Ninh more than 80km and more than 70km from Noi Bai Airport and 65km from Da Waterway Phuc removed port. A large part of the Bac Kan’s agricultural production land is dry field, single-crop field suitable for growing corn, soybean, cassava, etc., which are raw materials for animal feed production.

If concentrated husbandry can be implemented with more than 50 pig farms, the total herd will reach millions, which will help Bac Kan become the breeding center of the whole country and the whole Southeast region. Since then, the following industrial production areas such as meat processing, food processing, pig waste manure processing, etc. will bring huge revenues to Bac Kan Province.

But it is very difficult to plan a concentrated land fund of several thousand hectares because of natural forests, water springs, rocky soils, etc. Second, disease prevention must also be consulted with experts to avoid the occurrence of epidemic diseases in livestock. Accordingly, it is possible to develop a plan to implement many different areas with connectivity, but must ensure that the environment is removed from the population concentration point as required.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, deputy director of the Bac Kan Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that building cattle breeding toward concentration in Bac Kan is just an idea at present, but very difficult to implement. But if it goes in the right direction, the people of the province will benefit, the food processing factories will consume Bac Kan’s potent agricultural products and provide jobs for a large number of workers in the area.

The current situation in pig farming

At present, there are only 5 pig breeding projects completed and put into operation in Bac Kan. The Bac Kan Provincial People’s Committee also approved the investment policy for 12 other projects that are currently conducting procedures in the areas of land, environment and construction of work items. In general, the progress of the implementation of pig breeding projects invested by enterprises, both objective and subjective reasons (including 04 projects in Cho Moi District; 01 project in Cho Moi District) in Duong Son Township, Na Ri District ; 01 Project in Binh Trung Township, Cho Don District).

Most of the operational pig farms had public pollution recommendations. Although inspected and handled by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the company has overcome it, but it’s still not thorough, especially for 03 operated farms that are not eligible for livestock production certifications. The main reason is that farms do not comply with the regulations on environmental treatment in animal husbandry or because livestock farms are located close to residential areas.

Three projects in Cho Moi District, including: Quang Chu Township High-Tech Pig Breeding Farm Project by Quang Chu Green Agriculture Joint Stock Company; High-tech pig breeding farm project in Thanh Mai township of Thanh Mai Hi-Tech Livestock Joint Stock Company and High-tech breeding sow farm project in Hoa Muc township of Dong Tam Xanh High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, though the investment policy was approved by the Provincial People’s Committee on December 14, 2021. However, these 03 projects have not yet been implemented, neither have companies cooperated with the local procedures on land.

The completed pig farm project in Dong Piau Village, Van Tung Township, Ngan Son District, Bac Kan Province by JSC Minerals International Investment Joint Stock Company (formerly Viet International Investment Joint Stock Company) Ha 68) was approved by the Provincial People’s Committee in October 2017. According to According to the investment plan approved by the Provincial People’s Committee, the project was completed and put into production and operation in the fourth quarter of 2018. The project has not yet completed the land, environment and construction procedures according to the regulations. Currently, the Ministry of Planning and Investment is conducting procedures to halt the operation of the project.

Farm Sows and Super Lean Meat Pigs Project (Phase 02) in Pac Nghien Hamlet, Binh Trung Commune, Cho Don District of Agricultural Production Investment Co., Ltd. According to the investment plan approved by the Provincial People’s Committee, the project will be implemented after the completion of Phase 1 and commissioning. However, phase 1 of the project has been operational since February 2022, but phase 2 has not yet been implemented.

Besides pig breeding, buffalo and cow breeding is also a potential field in Bac Kan province. Photo: Dao Thanh.

Potential for the development of cattle and buffalo farming on an agricultural scale

Not only in the field of pig breeding, at present, Bac Kan province also has a number of buffalo and cow breeding farms operating in Cho Moi, Bach Thong, Na Ri, Ngan Son and Pac Nam districts according to the type of captivity.

One of the successful cow breeding models in Bac Kan Province is Mr. Nguyen Trong Thang’s farm in Phieng My Residential Community, Huyen Tung District, Bac Kan City. As an entrepreneur in the field of construction and transportation, Mr. Thang found that this business field is no longer very effective and even faces many risks that lead to losses.

During his work, Mr. Thang found that Bac Kan is a mountainous province with vast land and sparse population, and is very suitable for raising livestock towards the farm, which is self-sufficient in food sources. For this reason, in 2021, Mr. Thang leased 2 ha of land to raise cattle. Of this, 2,000 m2 are intended for the construction of barns, 1.8 ha for growing elephant grass for raising cows.

Initially the farm had 89 cows, 3B cows made up the majority, followed by the Sind, Brahman, French Ken, Angus, Droughtmaster, etc. hybrids. So far, after more than a year of rearing, the total number of cows on the farm has increased elevated. was raised to 170. Mr. Thang said that thanks to his medical knowledge, he was able to artificially inseminate cows himself. Male calves are raised for meat and female calves are selected as breeding cows.

It is thanks to the self-control of the source of feed, especially artificial breeding, that although the price of buffalo and cows on the market has fallen sharply recently, this farm is still developing well and the herds are constantly growing. common.

Raising buffalo and cows in cages and growing grass is a new model for most of the people of Bac Kan province in general, who rely on pasture and cannot support themselves with food sources. Especially the cultivation of grass in the direction of intensive agriculture or the collection of rice straw from people to store food. This form lends itself to the ability of local people to muster more or less depending on the circumstances of each family. Many people have followed this example and used the land around the house and garden to grow grass, not only to raise buffalo and cows, but also to produce fodder for poultry and fish.
