All the new codes were approved by the General Administration of Customs of China on Feb. 23, in which the 3 provinces of Gia Lai, Lam Dong and Tien Giang were allocated most of the planting area codes. Tien Giang is also the province that received the most codes for packaging plants, with a total of 27 codes.
In total, Vietnam currently has 246 growing area codes and 97 packaging facility codes through the issuance of codes, which fully meet the requirements of the Chinese side.
On September 7, 2022, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) approved for the first time 51 codes of growing areas and 25 codes of Vietnamese durian packers allowed to export to this market. This is good news, showing that most durian growing area codes and packaging facilities in Vietnam are in line with Chinese market standards.
Earlier, GACC sent 25 officials to online check 29 packing plants and more than 100 durian growing area codes and packing plants in Vietnam to issue codes for export to China. The Plant Protection Department also arranged for 22 officials to coordinate with the agency to provide language support to the packers and durian-growing areas during the inspection.
On the afternoon of September 17, a ceremony was held at Tan An Square in Krong Pac district of Dak Lak province to announce the export of the first batch of durians under the protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the GACC join a total of 5 companies. A total of 6 containers weighing over 100 tons were exported for the first time.
On the morning of September 19, at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in Lang Son Province, two containers of Vietnamese durians officially cleared customs for export to China.
Durian is a fruit with high economic value. The Department of Plant Protection has suggested that municipalities, industry associations and companies strengthen and promote official exports to help farmers achieve higher profits from this specialty fruit.
