Dong Rui is an island municipality in Tien Yen District (Quang Ninh Province). The terrain is relatively flat and surrounded by tidal flats and mangroves. Taking advantage of the natural benefits, the people of Dong Rui engage in aquaculture and especially sea ducks as eggs. However, in the past, Dong Rui people only raised ducks on a small scale, with uneven egg quality and low economic efficiency.

In order to purposefully develop this model and ensure both quality and product performance, the Dong Rui Township Farmers’ Association established the Dong Tien Duck Breeding Cooperative in 2015 with seven participating members and is conducting procedures for awarding a collective mark from the National Intellectual Property Office.

Currently, the Dong Tien Livestock and Service Cooperative has grown to 25 households raising sea ducks for egg production, with a total flock of about 15,000 animals. This is a Dai Xuyen sea duck with super eggs, dark feather color and semi-natural pasture in Dong Rui Island Municipality.

“In order for Dong Rui’s sea duck eggs to meet the same quality standards, we have implemented a separate cooperative breeding process that applies to all members. Accordingly, the cooperative will be characterized by support. From the supply of seeds, feed, through the transfer of breeding techniques, disease prevention, vaccination, etc. to product consumption, the cooperative members only have to take care of the livestock and collect duck sea eggs every day,” he said. Vu Tuan Anh, director of the cooperative, shared.

Mr. Tuan Anh said that before the cooperative was established, Dong Rui’s sea duck eggs were only consumed in the community or sold retail in markets in neighboring towns. However, it is difficult for consumers to distinguish Dong Rui sea duck eggs from ordinary duck eggs.

Thanks to the management and control of quality, design, packaging and brands, Dong Rui duck sea eggs are becoming more and more famous. At present, eggs are consumed in large supermarket systems, grocery stores and safe agricultural products in Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, etc. In addition, Dong Rui sea duck eggs are also consumed in the kitchens of restaurants, companies and industries.

On average, the cooperative delivers 10,000 to 12,000 sea duck eggs to the market every day. Dong Rui sea duck eggs have a large, thick shell. When eaten, they have a fragrant, meaty, fatty flavor and more yolk than freshwater duck eggs.

According to Mr. Tuan Anh, on New Year’s Day, people’s demand for eggs falls, supermarkets and company kitchens almost stop operating, and the number of eggs in stock is quite large. Therefore, the cooperative plans to build a factory to process instant duckfish eggs.

To prepare for the production of instant duck egg, the cooperative sent people to Dabaco’s Bac Ninh Instant Chicken Egg Processing Factory to share experiences. Accordingly, raw eggs, after cleaning, are boiled in the center (the firm cooking method helps the yolk to be in the center, which avoids breakage when peeling).

After cooking, the eggs are in turn poached in cold water, peeled, cleaned, marinated with spices and stewed. The Instant Sea Duck Eggs are then packaged, vacuum sealed and sterilized to ensure a shelf life of up to 6 months.

Mr. Tuan Anh shared that when the instant egg factory is built and put into operation, instant duck sea eggs will become a nutritious choice for daily meals. In addition, we help create jobs for around 20 local workers.

In the near future, the cooperative will continue to improve product packaging and labels, promote media advertising, open up more markets, and aim to export instant sea duck eggs.

In 2022, the income of the Dong Rui sea duck eggs cooperative will be about VND 6 billion, less interest expenses of about VND 1.5 billion. Adhering to the process of the duck sea duck raising cooperative has improved people’s incomes, contributing to the completion of the new rural construction program in Dong Rui.

At present, the Dong Tien Livestock and Services Cooperative wants to create favorable conditions for the cooperative to lease land according to the master plan and land use plan to build an instant duck egg processing factory. From there, diversification and appreciation of important local agricultural products with the aim of export.
