According to information from the Saudi press, the Ministry of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture made the above statement during a conference on Aug. 25.
The conference, entitled Scientific Research on Promising Crops in Saudi Arabia, was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture together with the National Center for Sustainable Agricultural Research and Development (to be named the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development). also known as Estidamah) which are organized collectively at the center’s headquarters.
Experts and researchers attending the workshop discussed a range of studies on advanced agricultural systems that can be used to develop the country’s food industry. dr Rahma Nasser Jeries, a researcher at the ministry, said dragon fruit will have the first fruit among locally produced crops. This will help to realize the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 in its strategy to expand non-oil economic sectors.
dr Jeries presented a report entitled “Study of Dragon Fruit Growth and Yield under Three Environmental Conditions”. Research has shown that dragon fruit has become one of the most expensive foods in the world.
A branching plant close to cacti, dragon fruit thrives well in tropical and subtropical regions and uses less water than other crops. Dragon fruit production is an effective way to conserve water for other agricultural purposes, not to mention that dragon fruit provides users with many nutritional benefits.
