After more than 10 years working with grape seaweed, DT Group has built up a raw material area covering 75 ha to date, which has been confirmed by Vietnam Record Organization as the largest growing area and production of Japanese grape seaweed in Vietnam as of 2020. Among them are about 80% of the area associated with more than 70 peasant households in Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan provinces who lost money on snail farming and switched to seaweed farming, bringing income .stable at 30 million/month on a Pond area of ​​5,000m2.

In addition to the raw materials area, the DT Group has also set up a processing and packaging area and a systematic product preservation system. In this area, the grape seaweed processing and packaging area covers an area of ​​8,000 m2 and provides stable jobs for 150 local workers with an average salary of 5-10 million VND/person/month.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy, general manager of D&T Khanh Hoa Seaweed Joint Stock Company, said the company has now mastered the technology of producing various water-separated grape seaweed products on the market, which is popular with Japanese and American consumers. heavy consumption. Accordingly, this dehydrated grape seaweed product is filled with 80% grape seaweed, the remaining 20% ​​is brine. In addition, the product has been HACCP certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to meet food safety standards. In 2021, the company’s Okinawa dehydrated grape seaweed achieves a 4-star OCOP.

Here, he highly appreciated the grape seaweed processing equipment and technology, and wished that the company would continue to make efforts and promote the processing stage to utilize the full value of grape seaweed.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy, the company currently offers the product lines of dehydrated grape seaweed with Okinawa, Vmax, dried Okinawa grape seaweed and Vmax fresh grape seaweed with a total production of over 2,000 tons/year, 70% of which is exported to the United States and the United States Japanese market; Revenues of 40 billion VND/year.

Expansion of raw material and processing areas of seaweed

According to the Director General of D&T Khanh Hoa Seaweed Joint Stock Company, Vietnam currently has an area of ​​over 10,000 hectares of seaweed cultivation with a production of over 100,000 tons of fresh seaweed / year. However, people still do not understand the value of seaweed, so they have not yet realized the full potential of this product.

Khanh Hoa province in particular has the advantage of a long coastline along the central coast strait with deep, clean and wave-resistant waters that provide a favorable environment for many species of seaweed, including grape seaweed.

Therefore, in the strategy from now to the next 5 years, in order to exploit this algae “gold mine”, DT Group will continue to grow and work with farmers to expand the material range; At the same time you invest in research and improvement of existing products and develop new products from seaweed.

“In the near future, we will launch 5 dried seaweed products with flavors of salmon, burnt garlic, seafood, cheese and salted egg to add value. At the same time, a new 3-hectare factory with modern machines, equipment and production technologies was put into operation to manufacture products for domestic and export markets. At the same time, continue to invest in staff training to improve professional skills; strongly apply 4.0 technology to production and sales management to bring grape seaweed products to the peak of value,” shared the head of DT Group.

The quality of the grape seaweed grown in this area is on par with that of cherry blossom country. However, in order to develop sustainable grapes, DT Group proposed to the local government to support the planning of seaweed cultivation areas to both help people improve their lives and businesses to have a stable supply of raw materials.
