For the past decade, the Dien Pomelo has been “enthroned” when chosen by most of the families in the north of our country to celebrate Tet. In addition, diene pomelo is also very heavily consumed in the central and southern provinces for its beautiful golden color, attractive aroma, and unforgettably sweet quality. When consumers are excited and consumption is strong, it is also the time when farmers in many places are planting dien pomelo varieties.
But among many households who have had success with the Dien Pomelo variety in buying good seedlings, juicy quality “standard taste”, many farmers also get “bitter fruits” when planting the Dien Pomelo variety, which is not tasty, hybrids .. So when the pomelo tree bears fruit, it can’t be sold, or sold cheaply, but still no buyer.
The case of Ms. Le Thi Lan (57 years old, Kim Chung Township, Dong Anh District, Hanoi) is an example. When some households in the area saw 10 years ago, some households in the area were planting the variety of diene pomelo on rice land to earn a fairly high income, which has 10 times more economic value than transplanting rice or growing vegetables has, Ms. Lan decided to cultivate 2 Sao land purchase of dien pomelo varieties for planting. Mrs. Lan tried to buy seedlings from a cheap grafting household in a neighboring community, without foreseeing the later consequences.
After 6 years, the grapefruit garden gave fruit, she fell behind, because grapefruit has a more bitter taste than sweet, so it is not juicy. First I heard from neighbors that the tree was still young because pomelo was new to fruit so the quality of the fruit would be bitter and after a few years the quality would improve and the food wouldn’t be bitter anymore…(? !) Ms. Lan also believes and hopes so.
But even in the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th year after divination, the quality of their grapefruit is still bitter, so no one buys it, or if it can be sold, it is extremely cheap. In the recent Tet Quy Mao grapefruit harvest, Ms. Lan’s family still had thousands of unsold grapefruits, which they even gave away to relatives, they didn’t want to receive them because the quality was too bad.
Ms. Lan confided, “My family has put a lot of effort and money into pomelo gardening, hoping to transform my life, no wonder the last few pomelo seasons have been so disappointing because the pomelos are fake, but they cannot be sold because they are not tasty. . Neighboring households growing juicy non-bitter grapefruit varieties are sold for 25,000-30,000 VND/fruit, still “sold out” while my grapefruit is sold for 5,000 VND/fruit but no one wants to buy it…”.
According to Ms. Lan, if the situation is that the quality of the fruit is still more bitter than sweet, next year she just needs to cut down the whole garden to buy a new “standard” variety of Dien pomelo and bring it instead back to the plant…
In the same situation as Ms. Lan, the family of Ms. Tran Thi Huong (46 years old in Trang Viet Township, Me Linh District, Hanoi) has been suffering for several years because they have to grow poor quality dien pomelo varieties. so they can’t sell. Ms. Huong said, “8 years ago, I planted Dien pomelo, but didn’t buy seedlings from a reputable center (the price of pomelo seedlings in a reputable center was quite high, up to VND80,000/tree), but it was cheap . Bought from a self-sacrificing household in the area for only 40,000 VND/tree. In the case of fruit, the quality of the grapefruit is too poor and not tasty, so it cannot be sold or very little…”.
Last year’s grapefruit harvest, her family still had more than 2,000 fruits left, nobody bought them for sale, and people didn’t even want to take them, because grapefruit was not only dry, but also very bitter to eat …
There are still many people who have failed with the bad Pomelo variety Dien, but just the above two cases are enough to say that choosing a good variety is very important. Therefore, before planting anything, especially perennial plants like grapefruit, people need to be very careful when buying seedlings. Because with fruit trees, in contrast to short-term crops, it takes many years for the tree to bear fruit.
Definitely do not want to buy cheap seedlings floating on the market with attractive advertising words. Go to reputable seedling institutes and centers to buy, although there the price of seedlings is slightly higher, in the future people are “guaranteed” on the quality of plants, as well as products …
