In recent days, every early morning in the fishing ports of Quang Ngai Province has always been very busy as the fishing boats return from the Lunar New Year sea voyage. Fishermen disembarked in the excitement of winning the sea fortune earlier in the year.
After fisherman Huynh Dinh (resident in Pho An Township, Duc Pho City), the owner of fishing boat QNg 98308TS and 10 boats docked at Tinh Hoa Port (Quang Ngai City), they urgently set out to search for waiting merchants to fish . On this voyage, Mr. Dinh’s ship departed on December 25 (lunar calendar). After more than 20 days of fishing during Tet in the Hoang Sa fishing grounds, his vessel caught more than ten tons of fish of all kinds.
“This fishing trip was cheap, we caught over 10 tons of striped tuna, 1 ton of tuna, more than 1 ton of mackerel and other fish. After selling to dealers, we earned about 400 million VND, excluding the cost of gasoline, like other essential things, a profit of nearly 300 million dong, each boatmate will be shared with 15 million dong of public money,” Mr. Dinh said cheerfully.
According to fishermen in Quang Ngai, the period before, during, and after the Lunar New Year each year is a time when it’s easy to encounter many valuable seafood streams. In addition, the value of seafood is very high and always brings good income to fishermen.
Therefore, many fishing boats choose this occasion to reach the sea to catch fishermen accept to say goodbye to their families to celebrate Tet at sea. Usually each such trip lasts from 20 days to 1 month.
After fishing in Sa Ky Port (Binh Chau Commune, Binh Son District), fisherman Bui Duy Tan, owner of fishing boat QNg 90892, said that he and his crew caught more than 7 tons of flying fish on that trip. With a trader import price of 50,000 – 90,000 VND/kg, his ship also earned a few hundred million dongs, the crew members had a decent amount of money to spend the late Tet with their families.
“Seafarers like us are all looking forward to the voyage later this year. Although they must be separated from their families at a time when all are reunited, they must accept this for the sake of their livelihood. Maybe that’s why God loves the sea and gives it luck to make up for the losses. Now when I come back, each ship has a lot of money, fish and shrimp are so full, we and our family are also very happy,” said fisherman Tan.
According to Mr. Tan, the weather at sea is very favorable right now, so most boats are taking advantage of going out to sea to catch fish. As for his ship and the ships returning from the sea through Tet, after going down to fish, he will use the reunion with his family, wife and children in a few days to continue to provide the necessary necessities for the next to prepare for a sea voyage. Everyone hopes for a productive new year so that every return is filled with joy.
Mr Nguyen Van Muoi, director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Fisheries Sub-department, said that the entire Quang Ngai Province currently has more than 4,500 fishing boats with more than 38,000 workers at sea.
“This time, the whole province has 62 fishing boats with nearly 270 crew members, which will catch fish during Tet, mainly to fish for seafood in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds… The fishing performance of this time cannot be counted because the ship is currently moored still in port. However, almost every ship that returns is very efficient and the fish price is stable, so the fishermen are very excited,” Muoi said.
