A GIANT Rice yields are best when the right amounts of nutrients are provided at the right time and meet the nutrient needs of the rice plant throughout the harvest.

A Giang Agricultural Extension Center has partnered with Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Joint Stock Company to organize a workshop on “Effective Nutrient Management Solutions for Rice”.

Rice cultivation always requires great care from farmers in choosing the right solutions and technical steps to both optimize costs and ensure productivity. A green paddy field, a sufficient number of effective shoots at the tillering or buckling stage, and abundance at the time of harvest are always the goal of every farmer.

In the 2023 summer-autumn rice harvest, 100% of the province’s total area of 230,000 hectares was sown throughout An Giang Province. The agricultural sector of An Giang expects that the rice crop will be very productive in summer and autumn and will be sold at a good price. To achieve this, farmers must encourage the use of mechanization and technological advances to reduce labor costs and improve production efficiencies. In particular, it is important to find an effective nutrient management solution for rice to determine end-of-harvest yield.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Bao (former Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Can Tho University) – a leading expert in the field of agriculture: The yield goal in a rice crop is only achieved when the amount of nutrients is sufficient. Exactly, supplied with nutrients at the right time, according to the nutritional needs of the rice plants throughout the growing season.

An effective and cost-effective nutrient management strategy should aim to maximize the uptake of nutrients from fertilizers and available soil sources through good rice management. Make the best use of available nutrients in the form of straw, other crop by-products and manure. Use minerals as needed to overcome dietary restrictions. Minimize the risk of crop failures by choosing realistic yield and economic yield targets; Efficient use of fertilizers and balanced diet. Maximize revenue by accounting for input costs, including labor costs, organic and inorganic fertilizers.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuan (Nhon Ngai Village, Nhon My Township, Cho Moi District, An Giang), who participated in the fertilizer use model of Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (Ca Mau fertilizer), shared: Ca Mau fertilizer helps rice plants, Slowly absorbing nutrients, helping to preserve rice leaf color and reduce pests and diseases in adverse weather conditions. The rice plants grow better, the leaves are erect, the plants are stiff, the roots are thick and long, there are few pests and diseases, the demonstration fields are even, and the seeds are firm. In the autumn-winter 2022 harvest, the demonstration field yielded 4.7 tons/ha, 1.3 tons/ha more than the control field. In the last winter-spring harvest of 2022-2023, the demonstration field yielded 7.3 tons/ha, 1.2 tons/ha more than the control field.

And Mr. Nguyen Duc Huy (Vinh Loi Hamlet, Vinh Nhuan Township, Chau Thanh District, An Giang) shared: With Ca Mau NPK fertilizer, the demonstration field yielded 6.8 tons/ha in the last winter-spring harvest, so 200kg/ha higher than control field, 1.2 million VND/ha higher profit than traditional rice production. The use of Ca Mau NPK helps the rice leaf color is durable, the leaves stand still, harden and have thick white roots, providing nutrients and efficiency.

According to Ms. Huynh Dao Nguyen, director of An Giang Province Agricultural Extension Center, the efficiency of the rice production model using Ca Mau NPK polyphosphate technology has comprehensive outstanding advantages and helps rice plants absorb moisture. All nutrients are slowly absorbed. The color of the rice leaves is permanently preserved, standing leaves, hard plants, thick white roots, limiting harmful pests and diseases, ensuring plant nutrition…, Yield increased by more than 11%, cost of production decreased by almost 1 million VND/ha Above In addition, the profit increased by almost 5 million VND/ha.

Rice farmers in An Giang said that by applying the Ca Mau NPK product - the polyphosphate technology - the demonstration field yielded 7.3 tons/ha in the winter-spring crop of 2023, 1.2 tons more than that control panel. /Ha. Photo: Le Hoang Vu.

dr Le Hoang Kiet, project manager for new products and agricultural service solutions (Petroleum Ca Mau Fertilizer Joint Stock Company), said that the Ca Mau NPK product kit using polyphosphate technology is manufactured by the company. Europe’s leading technology. The benefit of the polyphosphate product set is that it helps rice plants to develop balanced, healthy tillering and long-lasting green leaves, curbs pests and diseases, produces many effective shoots, large branches and firm seeds, and helps increase yield and to increase the quality of agricultural products as a means of increasing profits for farmers.

With the results of the pilot models in the coming period, the PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Joint Stock Company will work with other local departments to replicate many models and help people increase their profits towards the national goal of food security.
