THAI NGUYEN It is not only a valuable medicinal plant, but also provides a stable source of income for many ethnic minority households in Yen Ninh (Phu Luong, Thai Nguyen) commune.

Mr. Hoang Khac Can (born 1991), director of DK Natural Products Joint Stock Company, said that compared to growing rice and corn, fenugreek brings three to four times higher economic efficiency.

In 2011, Mr. Can decided to develop medical products by following the scientific research works of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van On (Lecturer at Hanoi University of Pharmacy) took over. The company has partnered with 28 households to grow fenugreek.

Many farmers in Yen Ninh Township in Phu Luong District (Thai Nguyen) have broken the monoculture of rice and joined forces with farms that grow medicinal plants, bringing them steady incomes.

Mr. Can shared that the vine has very good vitality, just provide enough water, combine care and fertilize according to the right technical procedure, it will grow stably and ensure productivity and yield.

The best planting time is in April or July. After planting, cover the base of the tree and the entire bed with straw to retain moisture and limit weed growth so the plant can take root quickly.

In order to ensure that the cultivation of fenugreek meets the organic standards according to TCVN 11041-1:2017 and TCVN 1104-2:2017 as well as the GACP-WHO standards, no chemical medicines are allowed to be used, only the grass is manually cleaned, checked and removed The infected parts are removed as soon as they are discovered so that they do not spread widely.

The vine is usually harvested from April to October and can last until December if the weather is favourable.

Currently, an area of ​​about 3.5 hectares is expected to produce 50 tons of cream cheese per year.

As for the processing, the fresh ingredients with 100% organic standard fenugreek material are cleaned of weeds and impurities after harvesting by eyes and manual workers, then rinsed twice with well water and cut with an industrial machine.

The products are dried, perfumed with a solar dryer, then packaged and placed on the market.

Mr. Hoang After applying the model of fenugreek cultivation, the efficiency is quite high.

Growing medicinal plants with fenugreek is not difficult, does not require much care, but gives a better income than growing rice and potatoes. With an area of ​​about 1,000 m² harvested twice a month and sold to the company at VND 8,000/kg, Truong’s family has a stable income.
