“Hai Phong is becoming a model point in the strategic project of logistics development in Vietnam,” said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan at the meeting between the delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People’s Committee of Vietnam City of Hai Phong. on the policy of developing a strategic project for the development of logistics services in Vietnam by 2035, with a vision by 2045. in the afternoon of May 24.

In fact, Hai Phong is the only place in the northern region that fully unifies five modes of transportation, including road, rail, air, sea and inland waterways, under equal conditions. The natural geography and seaport system are favorable for the development of logistics services industry. In addition, this place has a long tradition and experience in the use and operation of seaports and post-port logistics systems.
Bui Quang Hai, director of the Hai Phong Ministry of Industry and Commerce, said the operation of logistics services in Hai Phong city plays an important role in the northern key economic region as well as the Red River Delta. In the period 2011-2020, the growth rate of the logistic service sector here always reaches a growth rate of 18%-23%/year.
In 2022, over 160 million tons of goods were transported through Hai Phong’s seaports. It is expected that the throughput of cargo in this port will be estimated at over 180 million tons in 2023. Currently, the contribution to the city’s GDP in this area is estimated at 10-15%.
It is well known that in recent years, the logistics service activities in the Hai Phong city area have developed greatly both quantitatively and qualitatively, a number of major domestic and foreign brands have joined forces and invested in this market. There are currently about 250 logistics service companies throughout the city of Hai Phong, including about 30 multinational logistics companies and conglomerates such as DHL, UPS, FedEX…
However, most of the logistics pie in Hai Phong belongs to foreign companies (70-80% of the market share). Concerned about this, Mr. Tran Tien Dung, chairman of the Hai Phong Logistics Association, said that most of the domestic enterprises are small models, mainly engaged in the final stages such as loading and unloading, transportation, transportation, storage, etc., but these segments in in the supply chain have the lowest added value.
In addition, domestic companies are still limited in their ability to agree and agree on service prices, resulting in prices for loading, unloading, transporting and storing goods in Hai Phong and Vietnam currently compared to Southeast Asia are very low.

To improve the practicability of the project, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said the delegation will consider choosing Hai Phong as a model point in the strategic project of Vietnam’s logistics development by 2035 with a vision to 2045.
