A field demonstration event on mechanized technology for collecting, treating and using durable straw was held at Mr. Nguyen Van Em’s field (hamlet 12, Vi Trung Township, Vi Thuy County, Hau Giang Province). The event was organized by the Department of Crop Production (MARD) in cooperation with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hau Giang Province to introduce machinery and equipment for collecting post-harvest straw and technologies for it. and processing straw into green and low-emission products.

The demonstration event was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam, representatives of units of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, heads of Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development in Mekong Delta Region, research institutes, academics and experts. International companies, cooperatives and more than 300 farmers from Hau Giang province and other provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.

According to IRRI, out of about 47 million tons of straw every year after the rice harvest in Vietnam, only about 20% is collected and used to make straw mushrooms, animal feed and cushions for transporting fruits and vegetables. Trees… The rest is mainly burned or buried in the field, which is a waste of over 20 million tons of rice straw.

The above problems can be solved by a straw-based circular economy solution, where straw is collected from the field and used to make products such as mushrooms, animal feed and bio-fertilizer. , bioplastics and urban agriculture… to achieve maximum circularity in production.

The event demonstrates technology and equipment for straw collection and processing and creates conditions for farmers and connected partners in the value chain to access, see and hear the mechanized collection technologies. Dry straw, wet straw and straw circular farming models.

The aim of this event is to promote innovation in the rice straw value chain in Vietnam and open up new avenues for straw in the future. Mechanized equipment helps farmers collect and process rice straw with the aim of converting by-product straw into products with high economic value and providing farmers with income.
