The Lam Dong Ministry of Industry and Commerce has just reviewed and prevented the use of chemicals to dye tea in the province and reports to the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee.
Accordingly, in 2022 and the first five months of 2023, the Da Lat Customs Department will conduct customs procedures for five tea-exporting companies via the Pakistan and Afghanistan markets. Including Phong Giang Co., Ltd., Thien Phuong Trading – Processing Private Enterprise, Phuong Nam Private Enterprise, Phuoc Nam Anh Co., Ltd and Dang Gia Tea Co., Ltd.
For Phong Giang Co.,Ltd. Lam Dong provincial authorities have determined that it is a large green tea product manufacturing, processing and exporting company. In 2022 and the first five months of 2023, the companies will focus on production, mainly exporting to Afghanistan and Pakistan, with a production of over 1,400 tons in 2022.
As for the process, the company strictly implements the technical requirements of each stage of production and does not use any additives or chemicals to create the most natural product line possible.
Audited by Thien Phuong Trading – Processing Private Enterprise, this company produces over 450 tons of tea in 2022 and exports 430 tons to the markets of Pakistan and Afghanistan. In the first five months of 2023, the company exported nearly 80 tons of green tea to Pakistan and Afghanistan markets. Authorities found that this company uses fresh tea materials and dried natural flavors without using any chemicals to color the tea to sell in the domestic market and export.
The rest of the companies like Phuong Nam Private Enterprise, Phuoc Nam Anh Co., Ltd and Dang Gia Tea Co., Ltd. have been required by the authorities to apply production processes with strict regulations without using any kind of tea. additives and chemicals.
Based on the inspection results for the above five companies, the Lam Dong Ministry of Industry and Commerce suggested that the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee had not yet established an inspection team, and assigned the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to take primary responsibility and coordination with this Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Relevant units are stepping up the work of information, propaganda, warning and prevention of the use of chemicals in the process of tea production and processing.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong Province, as of 2022, there are 161 tea processing plants with a production capacity of 39,000 tons/year and 65 tea processing plants with a production capacity of 10,000 tons/year, centered in Da Lat city . , Bao Loc and districts such as Bao Lam, Lam Ha and Di Linh.
Tea export production in 2022 is estimated at 4,600 tons, with a total value of over US$11 million. Specifically, in the first 5 months of 2023, Lam Dong tea production is estimated at 2,200 tons with a total value of over USD 5 million. The main export markets for tea include Taiwan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Earlier, on June 7, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong Province sent a document to tea production and trading companies for export to Pakistan and Afghanistan markets on preventing the use of chemicals to dye tea.
Accordingly, the Afghan government announced on television in early May a complete ban on the import of Vietnamese teas that use tea coloring agents. At the same time, Pakistani tea importers have warned the Pakistan Tea Association and Pakistan Customs against using chemicals to dye tea. The responsible authorities in Pakistan are currently considering tightening the procedures for checking the quality of tea imported from Vietnam.
