Lang Son is a province with over 231 km of border with China, mountainous terrain with many hiking trails and openings. In the past, with the initiative of inspection and control of border gate areas, paths and openings, Lang Son Province has not seen the situation of the transport of pigs and pig products across the border.

At present, Vietnam and China have not signed an agreement on import and export quarantine of pigs and pig products, so this item has not been officially imported and exported. Therefore, the price difference for pigs and pork products between Vietnam and neighboring countries is still relatively high, so it is not excluded that this product can be smuggled through the border gate by dealers of official rank.

In order to prevent this, the emergency services at the border gate regularly check people and means of transport when entering and leaving the country.

Ms. Hua Thi Hong, deputy director of Huu Nghi Border Gate Customs Branch, Lang Son Provincial Customs Department, said the functional forces at the border gate are also working closely with the friendly country to strictly control the border area, including hiking trails and openings , to immediately prevent illegal entry and exit as well as smuggling and illegal transport of goods across the border.

Faced with the high price of domestic pigs, the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs Branch has strengthened strict control measures to avoid the phenomenon of people, to strengthen the prevention and control of illegal trade and transportation of live pigs and pig products across the border use of official import – and export goods across the border to smuggling and illegal transport of pigs and pig products through the border gate.

In the areas of the routes and openings, Customs and Border Protection have stepped up patrols and inspections, and deployed 24-hour standing forces at checkpoints and key points. At the same time, organize propaganda for the people to raise a sense of responsibility, do not support smuggling, especially activities related to the transport of pigs and pig products across the border.

Parallel to the border control, the market administration of the province of Lang Son also closely monitors domestic developments, the price situation, the market supply and demand. From there, coordinate the dissemination, inspection, control and treatment of sales price violations for offending business households. Do not allow market fluctuations to be used to hoard goods and unreasonably raise prices.

In addition, functional forces have coordinated to verify the origin of pork products, which helps stabilize market prices and protect consumer interests.

Although the price of live pig in Lang Son province has cooled down by this time, it is still at a high level of VND 65,000-75,000/kg. Therefore, many livestock farms in the province are actively breeding pigs to expand the scale of livestock farming to meet market demand.

However, many places in the province appear to have African swine fever. As of mid-August 2022, African swine fever has sporadically appeared in 549 households in 09 districts, the number of dead and displaced pigs is 2,209 with a total weight of over 108 tons.

To control African swine fever, the professional departments of Lang Son Province have suggested districts and cities to implement solutions to prevent and control the disease, avoid subjectivity, and allow the disease to recur and spread widely.

In particular, strengthen the control of the origin of breeding pigs before rearing, inspection and quarantine during transport and slaughter. In addition, the specialist departments and agricultural service centers of the districts and cities have increased their examination and understanding of the need to relocate and expand pig farms.

In addition, functional branches of Lang Son Province must guide and support ranchers to strictly implement biosecurity measures, pig restocking conditions and pig herd enlargement. Propaganda for breeders to proactively identify the origin of piglets purchased for re-rearing, thereby guiding farmers to implement disease control measures before introducing them into the herd.

Ms. Nong Thanh Phuong, head of animal husbandry and veterinary department at Cao Loc District Agricultural Service Center in Lang Son, said that at present, the center also recommends that when there is a re-herd, people must choose a facility. deliver guaranteed seed with clear origin. Along with this goes the breeding toward biosecurity, when pigs are sick, stop eating, they must immediately report to specialized agencies for timely support plans, do not buy, sell, slaughter, do not consume pig products, sick, dead and do not dead pigs dispose of in the environment.

In particular, spraying and disinfecting the breeding environment has also been promoted. In August alone, the Animal Health Department of Lang Son Province distributed over 7,000 liters of disinfectant for disinfection and disinfection at markets where livestock and poultry live.

By that time, the total pig herd of Lang Son province is estimated at nearly 170,000 head, up 46% from the same period last year. Proactively controlling the market, as well as asking farmers to be careful when rearing pigs, will help ensure supply and demand, stabilize pig prices and meet people’s consumption needs.
