This is the Vietnamese version of the book Diversity of Agroforestry Practices in Vietnam, a publication published by ICRAF Vietnam last year. The Vietnamese version of this book was written by Dr. Nguyen Mai Phuong, Dr. Rachmat Mulia and Dr. Nguyen Quang Tan compiled.
The book describes the diversity of agroforestry in Vietnam. Each agroforestry practice featured in the book includes botanical composition, national distribution, short-term benefits, and long-term potential.
Accordingly, the development of agroforestry can help Vietnam to implement and achieve the goals of a number of national policies. The National Action Plan of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development also emphasizes the need to develop more sustainable mountain agriculture.
At the same time, Vietnam’s nationally determined contribution by 2030 aims to eliminate greenhouse gases and conserve soil through agroforestry systems. In addition, the importance of agriculture in climate change adaptation and mitigation was officially recognized by the Koronivian Cooperation on Agriculture at the COP 23 climate change conference.
“The book will help farmers use land sustainably, reduce risks from market volatility and climate change, while reducing the impact of food insecurity and, more recently, the impact of the global pandemic. Covid-19 epidemic on local agricultural production.
We believe the book will have a profound and lasting positive impact not only on agroforestry research and development in Vietnam but also on a global scale,” said Dr. , Chief Representative of ICRAF Vietnam, co-author of the book.
