Ms. Anh said traders would rather buy green mangosteen for this year’s mangosteen harvest. In one month, her family ate about 500 kg of green mangosteen. Traders come to the garden to buy at a price of about VND 50,000/kg, the profit is not inferior to the sale of ripe mangosteen. In the meantime, however, the price of green mangosteen has leveled off somewhat and is around 45,000 to 48,000 VND/kg in the garden.

The price of pre-cut green mangosteen is also offered for sale on social networking sites with prices up to VND 360,000-400,000/kg. The “fever” of green mangosteen chicken salad has helped farmers to grow mangosteen in particular and fruit trees in general, accelerate consumption and take the initiative in buying and selling compared to before.

Ms. Huynh Tien, who runs a Mekong Delta specialty shop in Ninh Kieu district of Can Tho city, has many years of experience in growing and trading mangosteen products. , pink peel, little pus. Harvesting the green mangosteen at this point retains its crisp, sweet and sour flavor suitable for cooking.

Tien also explained that mangosteens in the garden, when picked in bulk, can easily be mistaken for young green mangosteens that are just about fertile enough. These young fruits are very harmful as they still contain pus and acid.

With over 15 years of mangosteen cultivation experience, Ms. Huynh Thi Anh shared that the green mangosteens that you can pick and sell need to ensure that the fruits are not too old. When the mangosteen turns from green to pink, it is the right time to harvest, the seeds will not be hard.

According to Ms. Anh, her family has made great efforts to cultivate the mangosteen garden during the ripening season in recent years, especially she had to use the harvest before the rainy season for fear of loss. Picking green mangosteen helps keep the trees from losing vigour, as they don’t have to grow the fruit for a long time. Also, farmers’ profits are higher as green mangosteens produce better quality and heavier fruits.

dr Vo Huu Thoai, director of the Southern Fruit Tree Institute, said mangosteen or other fruit trees, if anchored for a long period of time, will affect the growth of the plant. The diversification of products at different stages of the tree to generate profits for farmers, e.g. B. cotton, young fruit, green fruit, etc. is appropriate.

Mr. Thoai also concluded that picking the mangosteen in the green stage will help the tree stay healthy and recover quickly, avoiding competition from the mangosteen in the Thai market at harvest time. Especially at the time of harvesting ripe mangosteens, often in the rainy season, mangosteens are easily bruised, causing pus to ooze out of the shell due to water absorption, causing the mangosteens to deteriorate in quality and cannot be sold.

Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hau, a former lecturer at Can Tho University, also appreciated this as a positive signal to help farmers consume agricultural products. Adequate pruning of green fruit will help the plants grow stronger as they don’t need to grow a lot of fruit.
