According to unit statistics, as of March 1, more than 800 hectares of winter-spring rice in crop year 2022-2023 were infected with blast disease with the infection rate of 5-10%, in some places the infection rate had increased to 30 percent – 50%. The heavily infected area covers about 15 ha in Phu Ho Township, Phu Vang District.

According to the Ministry of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Thua Thien – Hue Province, the cause of many rice blast diseases is the influence of cold air waves and increased cold air, causing cold rain and heat. low altitude, alternating with cloudy days, light sunshine , early morning and evening foggy.
At the same time, since many farmers do not comply with rice care techniques, the application of fertilizers at the tillering stage is not balanced, and the excessive application of nitrogen creates favorable conditions for the harmful development of leaf smut.
In view of this situation, Thua Thien – Hue Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection proposed to focus on localities and functional units to control and prevent leaf smut disease quickly and effectively, to prevent the disease from spreading on a large scale and causing severe Limit damage Provision of technical personnel to monitor weather development, strengthen field inspection and monitoring.
At the same time, study and early detection of harmful leaf scorch diseases, especially in infected varieties such as X21, Xi23, BT7, JO2, Nep… and guide farmers to take measures to timely and effectively control and prevent leaf scorch diseases. In order to comply with technical disease prevention measures, the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Cultivation and Phytosanitary Subdivision recommends farmers under no circumstances to use pesticides or fertilize rice plants when the temperature is below 18°C.
Only spray in dry weather to prevent harmful organisms, spray to ensure the amount of active ingredient water per unit area, and follow the “4 right” principle.
Need to keep water on the field, do not let the field dry out. Spray in the morning when the dew has dried or in the afternoon. Do not mix with foliar fertilizer when spraying to eliminate diseases.
In the winter-spring harvest of 2022 – 2023, the whole province of Thua Thien – Hue planted about 28,075 hectares. Currently, the mass rice area is in the tillering phase – female standing. Previously, this local farmer constantly suffered from two sustained heavy rains that caused thousands of hectares of winter-spring rice to be flooded and required replanting.
According to the Thua Thien – Hue Hydrometeorological Station forecast, from now until mid-March 2022, the place will still be affected by 2-3 waves of cold air and cold air, which will lead to heavy rains.
