In order to upgrade fishing logistics service ships as well as offshore fishing vessels in Quang Tri Province with the support of the National Agricultural Extension Center, Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center cooperated with the Agricultural Extension Center of Thua Thien – Hue Province in 2022 to build an application model of the CPF Technology (Composite – Polyurethane Foam) for product preservation on offshore fishing vessels.
The model used on the ship is number QT – 90929, the owner of the ship is Mr. Le Van Tuan in Xuan Loc Village, Gio Viet Township, Gio Linh District (Quang Tri). The households participating in the model will be supported with 50% of the funds in the construction of 2 product storage tunnels with PU and composite materials with a volume of 20 m2/cellar. This is a new technology that uses synthetic rigid foam made up of two main liquids including polyol and a blend of polymethylene, polyphynyl and isocyanate.
PU materials have a lower thermal transmittance than traditional materials, such as fine foam, foam, and are difficult to ignite; has a small, closed, lightweight foam structure with high compressive strength and low water absorption; Strong adhesion to other materials such as metal, wood, glass. During construction, the storage tunnel is directly sprayed with PU material at each position, so it can meet all shapes, has no thickness limitation, minimizes voids in joints, creates solid structure, heaves. High durability for storage tunnels and fishing vessels. In addition, the construction is simple and the construction time is shortened.
The model applies excellent technology, uses new PU material, which meets the standard of uniform cooling, the storage time is longer than that of the traditional method 7-10 days, so it is enough to use sea for a long time, not to scratch Fish, improve production efficiency and product quality.
The fishing vessel’s owner, Le Van Tuan, said that on the first sea voyage after the ship’s tunnel conversion was completed, the number of days that could be spent at sea was extended. The amount of stone lost after many days in the sea is only 25%, much less than before using a traditional tunnel with a loss of 40-45%/trip. The fishing yield is higher with 100 tons of fish, the total turnover is 500 million dong and the profit is 300 million dong.
“Through the process of commissioning, it shows that the ice preservation is very good, saving ice costs, and bringing fresh fish products effectively. Every trip to the sea used to lose 1,500 stones, now it’s 400 to 500 stones. When the PU tunnel was not made, it only took about 6 to 7 days to run out of stones, the ship had to return to the shore, today there is a PU tunnel, so the journey takes 15 to 17 days lasts, which increases revenue each sea voyage. The purchase price of the products is also higher than other ships, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg,” added Mr. Tuan.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Thuy, vice chairwoman of the Gio Viet Municipality People’s Committee, said the local implementation model has shown high efficiency, improved the quality of exploited products, reduced post-harvest losses, and increased economic efficiency and income for fishermen. In the coming period, the municipality would like the Provincial Agricultural Advisory Center as well as the National Agricultural Advisory Center to strengthen the support of more models and replicas for fishermen…
The new model preservation method has good heat retention, increases the shelf life of products on board, improves the quality of the seafood caught by the offshore fishing fleet, contributes to the promotion of the fishing industry. Offshore fishing, extends the time to stay in the sea, protecting the country’s sovereignty over sea areas.
During a business trip to visit the existing models in Quang Tri Province, Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, director of the National Agricultural Advisory Center, said: “At present, the National Agricultural Advisory Center together with the Quang Tri Provincial Agricultural Advisory Center has a Series of production models opened to develop the livelihoods of Quang Tri farmers.
According to Mr. Thanh, Quang Tri is a place that has fully applied technological solutions to develop production, from breeding and farming models to aquaculture and exploitation. “When we visit the models, we see that the farmers are very excited. In the coming period, we will work with Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to continue to open forums to help farmers access technological processes continue to open training courses to help people to fully exploit the value of these technological processes in production…” said Mr. Le Quoc Thanh.
