In addition to introducing a number of new varieties into production, Ninh Thuan is simultaneously implementing many solutions to improve the yield and quality of the grapes in order to conquer the market.

Race – a prerequisite factor

Identifying the varieties is a crucial factor in the yield and quality of the Ninh Thuan grapes to meet consumer tastes. According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan, there are currently four grape varieties for fresh consumption in the province, including red grapes (Red Cardinal) and three green grape varieties, including NH01-48 and NH01-152 , NH04-102 and 1 variety. Grapes (Shiraz). These are grape varieties selected by the Nha Ho Institute of Cotton Research and Agricultural Development.

In addition, Ninh Thuan’s agricultural sector has identified promising grape varieties, including five fresh grape varieties: NH01-153, NH01-39, NH01-96, NH01-26, NH04-195 and three wine grape varieties, NH02-97, NH02-90, NH02- 137 In the coming period, Ninh Thuan’s agricultural sector will continue to evaluate promising varieties and put them into production. The most important grape variety is the red grape, which accounts for more than 63%, the NH01-48 variety for almost 31%, the NH01-152 variety for almost 2%, grapes for about 2.8% and other grape varieties for more than 1.2%.

At the same time, a number of new, high-yielding, good-quality grape varieties will be planted and tested for their adaptability to propagation, such as: NH01-212 (peony or Korean milk grape), NH04-195 (blackcurrant). , cultivar NH04-102 (black fingercup). These are new grape varieties for fresh consumption, high quality seedless grapes with great prospects of helping wine growers improve their economic efficiency.

The Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee has tasked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to entrust the Plant, Animal and Fisheries Seed Service Center with the implementation of the black currant variety experimental cultivation plan toward high-tech application. In addition, Ninh Thuan also organizes the evaluation, selection, construction and recognition of leading grape varieties, leading grape variety plantations with quality assurance, provides grape variety production materials and production management, and trades grape varieties in the market. Research and test new grape varieties with higher quality and higher yields than current varieties to expand and develop markets, especially export markets.

According to Dang Kim Cuong, Ninh Thuan focuses on the sustainable development of large-scale grapes, improving quality and diversifying products to achieve high added value. At the same time, according to the plan, resources and guidelines should be focused on investments in wine regions. Formation of concentrated, stable and long-term wine-growing regions, generate income for the people and enhance the competitiveness of Ninh Thuan grape products as Vietnam joins international economic integration.

“According to Ninh Thuan Province’s Cultivation Development Plan for 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030, the vines are targeted to develop a planting area of approximately 2,000 hectares with an estimated yield of more than 51,000 tons. In particular, the area of grapes grown under VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic standards reached 1,520 hectares, accounting for about 76% of the province’s total grape area, the production reached more than 40,000 tons,” said Damn Kim Cuong.

Introduction of technology to “standardize” grape production

Ninh Thuan vine is also facing many difficulties and challenges, the profits from the grapes are still not up to the potential. Although Ninh Thuan grapes are becoming better known in the market, they still cannot compete with imported products of the same type in both quality and appearance. Products made from grapes are not really diverse.

In order to improve the yield and quality of Ninh Thuan grapes, the province’s functional sector has determined that science and technology must be applied to the production with appropriate production methods, such as: Safe grape production method, VietGAP standards, Organic; rational use of fertilizers and pesticides towards the use of organic fertilizers, biological pesticides and herbs to improve productivity and product quality.

So far, the area under vines using high technology accounts for 31% of the total area under vines, of which the area under automatic and semi-automatic irrigation is more than 344 ha; Production towards VietGAP, almost 214 hectares organic, grown in greenhouses, almost 5 hectares automatically irrigated.

“In order to preserve the fruit and avoid crop failures, winegrowers in Ninh Thuan planted fruit bundles and grew grapes in greenhouses. Packing grapes for fresh consumption and growing grapes in a greenhouse brings high efficiency because the roof covers rain, wind and dew. This significantly reduces the status of harmful pests and diseases in the vineyards, farmers rarely use pesticides, but the grapes grow well, bloom and fruit easily, and the fruits are ripe, beautiful, and have the right sweetness for harvesting “The Grapes are harvested with very high quality,” said Dang Kim Cuong, director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan.

According to Mr. Cuong, Ninh Thuan currently has three production areas planned for high-quality grapes, based on VietGAP standards, covering an area of 100 ha. Ninh Thuan also has grape processing facilities such as: Van Hai Plant at Phan Rang – Thap Cham; Nhon Son in Ninh Son; Khanh Hai is located in Ninh Hai.

At present, Ninh Thuan has expanded the area of grape production according to VietGAP standards and issued 110 VietGAP certificates to 1,197 households covering an area of more than 213 hectares, expanding the area of grape production towards VietGAP Apply advances in production and post-harvest preservation.

In Ninh Thuan Province, there are grape processing and canning facilities to improve the quality of post-harvest products, such as: Viet Nghi Food Processing Plant; Ba Moi Production – Trade – Service Co., Ltd; Thai Thuan Agricultural Products Production – Trading Company Limited; Thien Thao Production and Trading Plant… with the products Grape Umbrellas, Dried Grapes, Dried Grapes, Grape Syrup, Grape Wine, Grape Juice…
