Give your grapes a new value
On June 16, the Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee cooperated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, newspaper Vietnamese culture organized a seminar on developing the value of grapes and grape products in Ninh Thuan Province.
Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan Province, said that the place has suitable climate and soil conditions for growing grapevines and that it is a locally specific crop that is common throughout the country known as “Ninh” is Thuan grapes”.
Although the area under vines accounts for only 3-3.5% of the total area under cultivation, the annual production value of this crop reaches 19-20% of the total production value of the crop industry. On average, the province supplies the market with about 28,000 tons of fresh grapes each year.
According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, grapes are a crop of high economic value, which provides a large source of income for farmers. Recently, the application of technical advances and the introduction of high technology in production has helped increase the value. On average, each hectare of grapes can reach 1.2-2.1 billion VND/crop, which is 2.6-4.4 billion VND/ha/year.
At present, Ninh Thuan’s agribusiness has completed the planning of a 2.5 thousand hectare safe wine-growing area based on its potential. Ninh Phuoc district covers 1.7 thousand hectares, other localities such as Ninh Son, Ninh Hai, Thuan Nam and Phan Rang – Thap Cham have an area of 140 ha to 250 ha.
According to Ninh Thuan’s agribusiness, the development of grape models has created a large revenue stream for households, businesses and cooperatives. Many new economic models from the vine are interested, invested and implemented.
A representative from Hoang Yen Farm (Phan Rang City – Thap Cham, Ninh Thuan) said at the seminar that the unit implements a traditional production model linked to the development of tourism. It is a highly economical model. In the past, the unit has researched and brought into production new grape varieties, combining modern development methods to add value.
“We have set up a separate research area for cultivation and are constantly looking for new grape varieties that have good disease resistance as well as delicious taste and high economic value for easy access. And we pass them on to farmers inside and outside the province,” Hoang shared with Yen Farm officials.
Nguyen Thi Bich Lien, development director of Yergat Food Co., Ltd (Thuan An City, Binh Duong), said the company is currently developing a leaf grape model covering a total area of 5 hectares. For this product line, the company produces, processes and exports food products to the Middle East, USA, Canada and France.
“Every year the company exports 4 tons of leaves through these markets and the demand is very high. For raw leaves, the company buys people at a price of VND 100,000/kg. At present, farmers who build a model of grapes for leaves have an income of VND1.2-1.4 billion/ha/year,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Lien, adding that companies urgently need connections. Develop and expand models in Ninh Thuan and other places in the region.
Solution group for Ninh Thuan grapes
At the seminar, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep raised the issue: Ninh Thuan is known as an arid area where there is only sunshine and wind, which poses a great challenge. But now sunshine is gold and wind is silver, presenting an opportunity for local development. He has found an opportunity for the agricultural sector under difficult conditions. It is the wind and sun that have brought forth Ninh Thuan’s agricultural products with high productivity and quality, making a difference.
Ninh Thuan used to be a dry land, but in recent years it has been gradually spared from the drought. For viticulture development, Ninh Thuan now has to increase both the area and the yield.
“The first thing to do is to increase the area and increase the output. “When production is low, it is only enough for advertising, not goods,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep said.
Mr. Le Huyen, vice chairman of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee, said that Ninh Thuan has had mechanisms and policies to develop agriculture, including viticulture, over the years. The province aims to export grapes and grape products, and has advised the provincial people’s council to issue guidelines to develop high-tech agriculture.
“The value of the vines is increasing, the grape varieties are increasing. There are currently 134 provincial OCOP products, 36 products related to grapes. In addition to the development of traditional grapes, the place can build production models linked to tourism and form a model of ornamental grapes…”, said Mr. Le Huyen, adding that the current main challenge of the place is the method of grape development by reducing the acreage new grape varieties with high yields are emerging, which are still limited. In addition, the expansion of the high-tech field is limited, and the field of pre-processing, processing and preservation is still limited.
According to the Nha Ho Institute of Cotton Research and Agricultural Development (based in Ninh Thuan), grapes are considered the main crop in Ninh Thuan’s crop structure, resulting in diverse products that are consumed both fresh and processed. Raw materials for wine processing and drying, has advantages, high economic value. However, the development of grape production in Ninh Thuan has not been stable in recent years.
There are many reasons for this, but the main ones are the undiversified structure of the grape varieties, unacceptable cultivation techniques, high investment costs and the excessive use of pesticides. In addition, the grape product is not diversified, the production of the product depends on the retailer and the season …
dr Phan Cong Kien, deputy director of the Nha Ho Cotton Research and Agricultural Development Institute, said the current production of Ninh Thuan grapes is highly efficient, but still mainly produces grapes for fresh consumption.
according to dr Kien, the production of processed grapes in Ninh Thuan is currently very low, so a development solution is required. This is an important factor for the sustainable development of the grape industry.
dr Kien also made recommendations to the authorities on the implementation of “long-term” research projects, seed management and the need to implement solutions to support people and units in the construction of orchards. Headline.
At the seminar, Dr. Le Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production (MARD), listened to the delegates’ and experts’ views on the potentials and benefits of grape development in Ninh Thuan.
He also noted that Ninh Thuan has to finalize the technology to be used for cultivating grapevines in the near future. In addition, the development of leaf grape products is also a new high-quality direction that can be used on site.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep emphasized that concrete solutions must be found in the development of viticulture in Ninh Thuan. In particular, the first is to develop the area, the local ones need to renovate the old gardens, convert mixed gardens to vines.
The second is to apply production processes to ensure food quality and safety and apply commercial criteria.
The third point is the question of varieties. This is an important factor that must be strictly managed. In order to be able to serve the export market, the seeds must be protected by copyright.
Besides the above three solutions, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep also brought other solutions to interest, the development of the main domestic market and subsequent expansion, and solutions for linkage in production.
In recent years, Ninh Thuan has focused on investment and development to improve the position and value of the grapes. In particular, the agricultural sector has studied and evaluated the potential of suitable wine-growing areas in the province with a total area of almost 8,000 hectares. In this area, Ninh Phuoc District ranks first with 4.7 thousand hectares, followed by Ninh Hai District with 1.7 thousand hectares, Ninh Son District with over 760 hectares and Phan Rang-Thap Cham City with 640 hectares. According to the agricultural sector, about 4,000 hectares of the above-mentioned total of almost 8,000 hectares are actively irrigated. This is a very favorable condition for expanding the area under vines in the coming years.
