Ninh Thuan Agricultural Advisory Center has just organized a training course on green green asparagus production techniques for 30 asparagus-growing households in Phuoc Hai and Phuoc Huu communes (Ninh Phuoc district).
Currently, asparagus is popularly cultivated in many places across the country, with the south-central provinces having the largest concentrated cultivation area, led by Ninh Thuan Province with about 426 ha (as of November 2022). .
Known as the “King of Vegetables”, green asparagus is one of 12 specific and competitive products for export of Ninh Thuan Province. In addition, some other provinces in South Central Region like Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan… also tend to expand their territory.
The training course was conducted by Nha Ho Seed Joint Stock Company, which contracted with Ninh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center to replicate the organic green asparagus production model in Ninh Phuoc District and across the province. The training course taught people how to apply new techniques of intensive farming, how to care for green asparagus plants, how to fertilize and how to prevent diseases so that the raw materials are certified organic.
The production process of organic asparagus uses a lot of organic fertilizers, vermicompost and composted manure with Trichoderma preparations containing antagonistic microbial fungi to kill harmful nematodes; synchronously apply measures such as the selection of disease-free, safe plant seed with clear origin; Thorough soil preparation, proper treatment to prevent fungi and diseases; 30 – 50 cm high to have enough good drainage in heavy rain.
In addition, agricultural methods such as field remediation, weed control in the fields and on the banks are used to limit the secondary host of the worms, and biological measures such as limiting pesticide spraying to eliminate natural enemies in the field such as spiders, ladybugs, etc. wasps. Additionally, sweet and sour bait traps can be used to attract butterflies when they are in bloom. The use of pesticides should be ensured according to the “four rights” principle; prioritize the use of pesticides and diseases of plant origin; If the tree is seriously ill, it is necessary to temporarily stop harvesting, cut it off completely, treat with medicines and fertilize to regenerate new trees.
With a strict production process, the manufactured products meet the standards for export, are safe for consumers, protect the health of producers and the environment…
