Mr. Hoang Dinh Binh, head of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Huong Hoa (Quang Tri) District, said the international market has now started to pay attention to Khe Sanh coffee products.
However, partners also have very strict requirements. In particular, coffee gardens need shade trees to regulate climate, regulate flowering and fruiting, reduce dry branches, as well as improve soil fertility, increase water retention, and retain fertilizer.
The shading also helps prolong the ripening process of the fruit and increases the acidity and sucrose content of the coffee beans. These are important elements for the formation of aromatic compounds that improve the quality of the coffee. The right density of shade trees creates a sustainable environment for coffee growing, helps stabilize yields and limit the good and bad years phenomenon.
Therefore, as part of the export coffee industry development strategy, this place aims to plant multi-purpose shade trees. The selected macadamia tree will be a multi-purpose shade tree that is very suitable for coffee as it ensures both the above factors and provides people with an additional source of income. This is also considered to test and evaluate the productivity and efficiency of the macadamia trees in the area to create a plan to be included in the planning and production plans to help farmers eliminate hunger in the coming period and the to reduce poverty.
According to the plan, Huong Hoa district will allocate VND 450 million to plant 1.5 thousand macadamia trees on an area of 15 hectares in Huong Phung, Huong Son, Huong Tan, Tan Hop, Tan Lien and Tan Lap communes. Huc, Three Floors and Khe Sanh Town… The implementation period is from 2023 to 2025, supporting the planting of 500 macadamia trees in an area of 5 ha each year.
To implement this plan, the district will provide training to disseminate scientific and technical advances in macadamia plantation to local households. The selected macadamia varieties must have yield, quality, resistance to pests and diseases, and be adapted to ecological sub-regions. Seedlings are produced in nurseries that are censored by state authorities and are guaranteed varieties.
In the current situation of climate change, planting trees to shield the coffee gardens from the wind and provide shade is proving to be an effective method that brings many benefits to farmers and helps maintain stability. coffee area…
