As one of the places with the most pig farms in the province, the trade and transportation of pigs in Quang Dien district has been very active recently, said Mr. Phan Van Lu, deputy head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The development in Quang Dien district confirmed that there have been no illegal imports of pigs and pig products from other places into the consumption area. The amount of locally raised cattle and poultry exported to other provinces is strictly controlled by the veterinary authority and local government.

Strictly deal with illegal import and export activities of pigs

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, director of Thua Thien-Hue Province Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine Subdepartment, said the veterinary sector, together with local and functional departments, is actively implementing measures to prevent the illegal export of animals and the import of pigs and pig products to other countries.

In order to prevent illegal import and export activities of pigs, functional authorities have set up checkpoints on the main roads and trails in the border areas and adjacent Laos, at each post are 3-5 people, including animal officials, medicine, police, market…

Transport vehicles traveling through the border area and through the northern and southern checkpoints and key routes are tightly controlled and monitored, combined with patrols to promptly detect and prevent violations.

Mr. Hung added that the pig herd in Thua Thien-Hue province was estimated at 155,000 heads at the time, an increase of 6,600 heads, up 4.5% from the same period last year. The reason for the increase in pig herds is that African swine fever has not been seen in the province recently, creating conditions for biosecurity breeding facilities to herd again.

Since the beginning of the year alone, more than 7,500 breeding pigs and 31,000 meat pigs have been quarantined and exported; inspect and monitor the import of nearly 152,000 pigs and 700 tons of legally frozen animal products.

After receiving documents from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial People’s Committee, the unit has strengthened inspection and control, especially at border gates, paths and openings in the border area, to promptly detect and strictly deal with these illegal trade cases. Earlier, on Aug. 1, the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue Province issued official letter No. 8092/UBNN-NN, urging the authorities to strengthen traffic control measures, stop the transportation and trade of animals and animals without delay to detect and strictly handle products illegal.

In particular, the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People’s Committee requested the 389 Provincial Steering Committee to closely coordinate and proactively share information and data with local central veterinary authorities and local veterinary authorities in order to take timely and effective measures to deal with violations.

The Public Security Department has launched a special project to combat illegal transportation and trade in pigs and animals.
