According to the Vietnam Trade Office in the UK, on ​​May 4 a shipment of 5 tonnes of Ri6 durian from Vietnam was cleared for official export and distributed to supermarkets in the UK.

Ri6 durian is considered one of the most famous specialty varieties in the Mekong Delta. Therefore, the UK durian importer is very confident about the quality of the product and expects the market to respond well, thus preparing for larger shipments in the near future.

The Vietnam Trade Office in the UK said the excellent quality of Ri6 durian, as well as preferential tax exemption for imports into the UK thanks to the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), has helped Vietnam’s durian gain a strong reputation. Competitive advantage in the UK market over durians from other countries.

Specifically, durians imported from countries without tax incentives are subject to an 8% tax rate, while Vietnamese durians enjoy a preferential tax rate of 0% under the UKVFTA agreement. Therefore, companies can compete with similar products from Thailand and Malaysia.

To expand export opportunities to the UK market, trade experts say exporters need a marketing strategy, particularly digital marketing, to introduce these specialty fruits to consumers in that country.

This is a global trend that Vietnamese companies need to embrace in a developed market like the UK, which is geographically quite distant from Vietnam, in order to boost exports in the near future.

Previously, many Vietnamese specialty fruits were also represented in the British market, such as Bac Giang lychee, Tan Lac red grapefruit and Dien Yen Thuy grapefruit and Cao Phong orange from Hoa Binh province.
