Recognizing tea as a local strength, Bao Hung Township (Tran Yen District, Yen Bai Province) has focused on producing organic tea according to VietGAP standards to improve quality and build a clean tea brand.

Bao Hung Township currently has more than 150 ha of tea cultivation area, with more than 70 ha mainly planted with Bat Tien teas, the rest is Phuc Van Tien tea and other teas. There are more than 300 households producing tea in the area. In the past, most people in the community grew tea in the traditional way. Improper use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has degraded the quality of the tea, leading to soil discoloration and pollution.

In recent years, through the implementation of a number of local projects such as the project “Improving the quality and safety of agricultural products and developing the biogas program in Yen Bai Province”, the model of “make tea safety, add value and promote sustainable development” has been implemented from Yen Bai Province Agricultural Extension Center, has helped change people’s perceptions of tea cultivation and switch from traditional methods to more efficient ones. mechanical, ecological.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Te’s family in Truc Thanh Village (Bao Hung Township) owns 0.6 hectares of Bat Tien tea, now the entire area is organically grown. Biological products are also used to control pests. Mr. Pham Van Ban, Director of Bao Hung High Quality Green Tea Cooperative shared, “The cooperative has worked closely with the cooperative groups and groups of tea producing households to clearly define prestige, product quality and consumer health. Build clean areas for tea material on.

When purchasing fresh bud tea products for processing, we also pay strict attention to products that are produced using organic methods or certified tea gardens that comply with VietGAP standards.

Also in the processing phase, the cooperative focuses on each phase to ensure the best product. So far, the cooperative has two products recognized as OCOP 3 and 4-star products, namely Bat Tien Bao Hung tea and Bat Tien Bao Hung tea bags. These products are widely consumed inside and outside the province, with prices ranging from 300,000 to 350,000 VND/kg.

The community of Bao Hung has now established nine cooperative groups and one tea cooperative. The cooperative groups and cooperatives all choose the tea production process towards organic and VietGAP standards. From seed improvement and care to collection and processing, everything is done according to strict procedures.
