Currently, farmers in the city of Vinh Chau in Soc Trang province are beginning to harvest the purple onions. Currently, purple onion price is between 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, with the current purple onion price securing a profit of about 100 million VND/ha for many purple onion farmers.
In the purple onion harvest in 2023, people in Vinh Chau city have planted 5,000 hectares, currently people have harvested about 2,000 hectares, the yield is between 18 and 20 tons/ha.
Drawing on the experience of previous years, people who grow onions are looking for plants to spread the harvest so that there is no overcrowding of agricultural products in the harvest season. In addition, households also promote consumption commitments, so that the production of products is relatively stable.
In addition, this year’s purple onion harvest shows only a few diseases, so that the costs for investment materials and used pesticides have also fallen compared to last year’s harvest.
