The conference was attended by the Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy, Import-Export Ministry (Ministry of Industry and Trade), local offices and agencies and a large number of lychee exporters, e-commerce platforms…
Throughout history, the difference in climate, soil and Thanh Ha Lychee specialties has won the hearts of many domestic consumers and well received by international friends.
For this reason, the District Party Committee and the People’s Committee of Thanh Ha District have established guidelines and orientations for the development of key fruit tree production of the district, with a focus on guiding the production of lychee in areas with favorable soils in Ha Dong and communes Ha Nam who direct the production of fruit trees according to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
In recent years, the Thanh Ha District Party Committee and People’s Committee have closely followed the project “Development of Concentrated Chemical Production Aimed at High-Tech Application of Agricultural Products, Organic Farming in 2021-2025-2030.” Hai Duong Province; Project “Development of Fruit Tree Production Areas Compliant with VietGAP and GlobalGAP Standards Linked with Export Ecotourism” of Thanh Ha District. The Thanh Ha District People’s Committee has also issued plans to plant fruit trees and promote and promote the consumption of lychee; Direct assignment of tasks to specialized units, departments and people’s committees of townships and municipalities for supervision and implementation.
According to the Thanh Ha District People’s Committee, the weather conditions are favorable this year, the winter weather in spring 2022 – 2023 is quite favorable, dry, with persistent cold, so the flowering and fruiting rate of lychee is very high. Therefore, the 2023 lychee harvest is considered a good season. Up to now, the area of lychees recognized as the GAP standard is about 500 ha in the whole district, of which 400 ha of VietGAP lychees and 50 ha of GlobalGAP lychees are still valid. In 2023, the entire district is expected to continue producing and certifying GAP standards for about 200 hectares of lychee.
According to Mr. Vu Viet Anh, Chairman of Thanh Ha District People’s Committee, up to now 100% of lychee production area is suitable for export according to district’s VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. The district has planned and implemented 39 planting areas covering 450 ha, which comply with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and export standards in Thanh Quang, Thanh Cuong, Thanh Hong, Vinh Lap, Thanh Thuy, Thanh Xa, Thanh Son communes fulfill. and Thanh Khe.
By the end of 2023, the entire district has 45 lychee production areas, which have been allocated 168 production area codes for export. There are 45 codes of growing areas that are exported to China; 40 planting area codes for export to Australia; 36 Japanese export growing region codes; 39 US export area codes; 8 Thai export growing region codes.
In 2023, the county will continue to maintain the growing area codes, while completing the regulations to maintain the 11 packing factory codes that have been issued, and register a new number of packing factories to ensure sufficient conditions to export substances to the Chinese market.
At present, lychee ovules are not mature enough to start making pulp. Lychee is pink, dark, tug of war, and the main crop is in the young fruit stage. It is estimated that the district’s lychee production this year will reach about 40,000 tons (early lychees 25,000 tons, main lychees 15,000 tons), equal to the lychee production in the 2021-2022 crop year.
The harvest season of lychee teas in 2023 in Thanh Ha District is expected to be as follows: lychee with white eggs will be collected from the second half of May 2023; Lychee with porcupine eggs will be harvested from the end of May 2023; Lychee, Red, Carpet will be harvested from early June 2023; Tow tractors will collect from mid-June 2023; From mid-June 2023 the main season for lychee tea begins to harvest.
By mid-June 2023, all 3 types of lychee are expected to be available for the same harvest: US, Chinese hybrids and high-season lychee. Due to the large and quick harvest, there will likely be a lot of pressure on lychee consumption.
Broad expectations of the high-end market
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien, CEO of Ameii Vietnam Company, the company has made careful preparations for the promotion and consumption of lychee products in order to bring lychee to the high-end market.
Mr. Tien also said that in this year’s lychee harvest, the company aims to maximize exports and bring most lychee products to the high-end markets.
“By introducing and promoting products, we hope to help improve the brand equity of lychee and other agricultural products. When we promote export, we always take the cultural value of our products. We not only want to introduce lychee fruit to international friends, but also to cultural values.”
According to Mr. Tien: “In the past, high-end markets were still called ‘difficult’, but in fact, through work and experience, these markets are not difficult. Even these markets love Vietnamese lychees, especially Thanh Ha lychee. However, in participating in and accessing these markets, they must comply with the regulations and standards that those markets have set.
Lychee is still mainly produced using traditional methods that have not yet gained trust and stability in these markets. I expressed my desire to work with farmers and departments to create a high value product. Therefore, a long-term and stable strategy is required.”
Ahead of the upcoming lychee harvest, the Thanh Ha District People’s Committee has ordered specialized agencies in the district to promote propaganda about the outstanding properties and benefits of Thanh Ha lychee fruit. on cultivation area, productivity, yield, cultivation process, care and pest control for lychee and regulations for managing the geographical indication “Thanh Ha” for lychee products Regulations for lychee production to ensure food hygiene according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP processes; Production process, care, pest control according to regulations, ensure export…
At the same time, the district also soon developed plans to promote trade in the country’s major cities, with an emphasis on coordinating with large shopping malls and supermarkets in densely populated cities and industrial parks.
In this year’s lychee harvest, Thanh Ha District will continue to organize Thanh Ha Thieu Litchi Week in Hanoi; Organizing delegations to participate in commercial promotion of lychee products in some places on East Highway and Nghe An or Thanh Hoa; At the same time, strengthening propaganda, promotion, research and development of the district’s main tourism products related to lychee fruit, such as river and garden tourism, cultural tourism, spiritual culture, eco-tourism and rural tourism associated with traditional handicraft villages.
In addition, the Thanh Ha District People’s Committee has ordered Thanh Xa, Thanh Thuy, Thanh Quang and Thanh Cuong townships to set up large parking lots with parking spaces, collect and purchase concentrated fabrics to create maximum conditions for businesses and fabric purchasing units; The road system has been modernized and expanded to facilitate traffic.
The organization of consumption and export still faces many difficulties
According to the Thanh Ha District People’s Committee, in addition to opportunities, this year’s lychee harvest faces many challenges, such as harvested quickly, difficult to preserve for a long time, processing facilities are few, technical solutions in preservation and processing are limited…
Fabrics produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards have very strict requirements from the scales to the production process (fertilization, pest control), however, the range of lychee in the area is still fragmented and aware. Safe production has not been guaranteed respected by many households, so it is very difficult to direct and implement.
The high prices of some agricultural inputs cause farmers not to boldly invest in the care of lychee plants for fear of losses. Meanwhile, the state doesn’t have many support measures for lychee growers.
It is forecast to be a good year for lychee, but so far the links between people and businesses have not been made and contracts for the consumption of agricultural products have not been signed.
The market for consuming lychee (especially early lychee) is mainly the Chinese market, but at present, your side has stricter requirements based on growing areas and packaging plants, so it will be difficult to bring the product to this market.
