The Vietnam Plant Disease Research Association, in cooperation with East Asia University and Central Highlands University, just organized a national workshop on “The 22nd Vietnam Plant Diseases”.
The conference was attended by more than 130 delegates, including leading experts and researchers from research institutes, research centers, lecturers and students in food technology and agriculture from across the country.
According to Prof. Dr. Vu Trieu Man, chairman of the Vietnam Association for Plant Disease Research, the unit has organized 22 national-level seminars and published 693 scientific research papers, of which 564 papers have direct prevention applications that bring practical economic benefits to plants. Many new pathogenic microorganisms with the names of Vietnamese authors are available in the world gene bank.
Over the years, the association has created new plant varieties and lines that are resistant to pests and diseases, as well as new methods of prevention. manufactures numerous diagnostic and biological products. In particular, the association has made important contributions to the eradication of curly rice and yellow rice diseases in the Southwest region. The association’s control measures are on track to protect the environment with many organic and integrated farming methods.
At the conference, experts and researchers presented 11 scientific reports covering topics such as: disease-resistant varieties in the omics era, prospects for sustainable control of plant diseases, use of microorganisms in nematode management, Panama wilt in bananas in Vietnam, and research orientation and identification of the causative agent of green wilt in sweet potatoes…
These are expert perspectives, detailed research results on plant diseases, technology application in crop protection and crop yield optimization.
The workshop provided an opportunity for delegates to share knowledge, exchange initiatives and propose highly effective technical measures in the field of plant diseases in Vietnam. The conference is also a forum for the development of multilateral cooperation in scientific research activities and technology transfer between scientists and research institutes, and contributes to many effective solutions for the sustainable development of agricultural products in major economic regions.
dr Nguyen Thi Anh Dao, Rector of Dong A University, said, “In the coming period, the university plans to focus on research into drugs to overcome diseases in pepper, coffee and durian… We will set up a food processing factory and open an experimental farm to create conditions for scientists to conduct experiments when it comes to model introduction and mass propagation…”
