At this time, the weather in Ha Tinh changes seasons, the night and morning are cold, the day is sunny. With this constantly changing temperature background, the resistance of pigs is greatly reduced, while diseases can easily develop and spread, especially African swine fever.

According to the Ha Tinh Livestock and Veterinary Medicine Sub-department, the sub-department not only encourages farmers to vaccinate with the right vaccines at the right time and at the right dose, but also encourages farmers to adopt animal husbandry techniques in an organic way. protect the environment, limit the occurrence of pathogens that cause disease in livestock.

The prime example of a farmer in the movement to convert from inefficient farming to disease-free livestock making billions of dollars each year is Mr. Le Ngoc Dan of Vinh Son Village, Cam Son Township, Cam Xuyen District.

In 2001, in accordance with government policy, Mr. Dan and his family went to the semi-mountainous land of Cam Son Township to establish a new economic zone. From 2001 – 2008 his family mainly cultivated acacia, peanuts, cassava… on an area of almost 5 ha to earn money. However, this economic orientation does not work, the family still cannot escape poverty.

In mid-2008, Mr. Dan realized that the family’s land fund was suitable for raising livestock and borrowed nearly VND 200 million from the bank to build a 200-square-meter barn and raise 15 sows and 80 pigs for meat.

By 2013, when livestock production was favorable, the family decided to invest more than 1 billion Dong to build two modern pig breeding barns with a closed biogas tank system with an area of over 1,500 m2 for 800 animals/brood.

“I pay particular attention to seed quality, cultivation techniques and disease prevention. All seed sources are purchased from reputable companies in the province. Purchased breeding pigs are fully vaccinated with the vaccines recommended by the veterinary authorities. Pigs are raised organically and waste is treated with microorganisms, so pollution can be reduced and the risk of disease reduced,” said Le Ngoc Dan.

In the future, Mr. Dan plans to expand the barn line to rear more pigs and biosecurity sows. Photo: T.Russia.

Courage for economic development has helped Mr. Dan’s family from a difficult household to become a more prosperous household in the area. Mr. Dan’s farm currently keeps 800 pigs per litter and raises 2 litters per year. In addition, the family breeds 40 sows to reduce the cost of purchasing breeding cattle.

In his opinion, it is a process of the couple’s constant striving to have the farm as it is today. They have gone to many farms, many good models in the province to learn husbandry techniques, how to prevent diseases… Thanks to this, the model has continued to grow, until now, the profit from pig farming has reached about 9 billion dong, after After deducting family expenses, the profit is nearly 1 billion dong.

Sharing his experiences in animal husbandry and disease prevention, Mr. Dan stressed that no matter what animal you are breeding, you must regularly monitor and record the health of each species and understand the characteristics of that animal. In addition to ensuring clean water and feed, special attention should be paid to vaccination against disease in pigs.

During rearing, attention must be paid to diet, rations and feeding times to ensure a lean proportion and weight when sold. In particular, the cleaning of the stable should also be done regularly twice a day so that the stable is airy and clean.

“My farm built a fence to isolate the living area from the outside world. It works according to the motto “no inside, no outside”. Before workers enter the warehouse, they must be isolated in an isolation area for 2-3 days. sprayed regularly and continuously with sanitizer and disinfectant so luckily my family’s farm was still safe from African swine fever,” Dan added.

Besides raising pigs using the hill garden, Dan’s family raises more than 1,000 chickens every year, which brings in an income of more than VND50 million/year. For the future, Mr. Le Ngoc Dan has the idea to build more barns to expand pig and chicken farming. At the same time, breeding experiences are shared, breeders are supported, to help district and community farmers overcome difficulties together and become rich.

With his perseverance and efforts, Mr. Le Ngoc Dan was honored by Ha Tinh Provincial Farmers Association in October 2022 for good production and business in 2017-2022.
