BAC GIANG Thanks to the diversification of distribution channels for fresh fruit consumption and extensive processing, the lychee harvest and consumption of Luc Ngan (Bac Giang) in 2023 have basically “reached the finish line”.

The lychee harvest in Luc Ngan (Bac Giang) is nearing the end of the season and this year is considered favorable for consumption, faster than any year. With a lychee area in Luc Ngan district of more than 17.3 thousand hectares (an increase of more than 1.6 thousand hectares compared to 2022), the production is estimated at 98 thousand tons. and local interests such as: promoting domestic consumption, export, through e-commerce channels, drying, processing, and especially this year, the form of selling in the garden to tourists have achieved more results.

Processed fabric absorbs goods

The entire Luc Ngan district currently has more than 3,000 laundry drying kilns, and it is expected that about 9.5,000 tons will be dried using the coal kiln method and 500 tons will be dried using the electric kiln and boiler. In addition, about 3.2 thousand tons are cooled and industrially processed.

Nowadays, lychee drying ovens not only actively increase fresh lychees for domestic and export markets, but also increase their operating capacity to relieve the pressure on the harvest. In Thanh Hai Township (Luc Ngan), Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan has been leasing land in Phuong Chieu Township, Hung Yen City (Hung Yen Province) for many years to build a lychee drying oven with a capacity of 9 to 10 tons/day to build .

Mr. Lan said, “This year the lychee has a good season, the fruit will surely be beautiful and ripe, so the quality of the dried lychee is guaranteed.” Because the kiln is near an area where many lychees are grown become, it is very convenient for people to sell and sell, the stove owner does not need to go to the shops. At present I employ 14 workers in many provinces. Once the fabric has dried, each batch is sold.

In Luc Ngan District, Mr. Vi Thanh Luan’s family in Hang Bong Hamlet, Hong Giang Municipality is one of the few households using technological oven (electric drying). With an investment of about VND 600 million in two drying kilns and a capacity of 12 tons per batch, Mr. Luan is expected to dry about 200 tons of fruit.

“This year, positive signs of dried lychee products continue, so from the start of the season to now, the family has focused on buying fresh lychees at a price of 8,000-9,000 VND/kg from the people and more than 100 tons to dry . Currently, the price of dried cloth ranges from 45,000 to 50,000 VND/kg. Compared with drying with a charcoal oven, electric drying makes the quality of the pulp more flexible and delicious,” said Mr. Luan.

Currently, the Global Food Import-Export Joint Stock Company of Phuong Son (Luc Ngan) Municipality is also increasing the purchase of lychee from local people to use in processing products such as juice and frozen lychee. Cold and canned…

This year the company plans to purchase 2,000 tons of gray fabric for processing. In addition to the previous technologies and equipment, the company has invested more than VND 2 billion in the application of international atmospheric packaging technologies, with the benefit of extending the shelf life and increasing the freshness of the products. Processing.

Many traders not only buy lychee for sale at markets, but also collect goods to ship to domestic fruit processing plants. For example, vendors from many places flock to the banks of Cam Son Dam in Dong Thuy Village, Hoa Lac Township, Huu Lung County, Lang Son Province, in the late afternoon to buy lychee from the people of the Cam Lake area. Color is sold to fruit juice factories and lychee drying ovens in Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Ha Nam and Hung Yen provinces. Every day, dozens of tons of lychee are delivered by people in the lake. for out-of-province processors and kilns.

Appreciate all markets

Luc Ngan District estimates that this year’s lychee harvest will consume 78.3 thousand tons of fresh lychee (domestic 35 thousand tons, export 43.3 thousand tons). As of June 30, the total number of fixed fabric weighing points is 235 large and small points, which has consumed more than 80% of production. Lychee is consumed in the northern market, mainly in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Thanh Hoa…; Southern provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai… and exported to the markets of China, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, the United States, Thailand…

As for the domestic market, the district soon networked and promoted trade with distribution groups, wholesale markets, corporations, merchants and e-commerce platforms for consuming products. Leading retailers and distributors in Vietnam such as Saion Co.op, Go!, BigC, Tops Market, Co.opmart or MM Mega Market are actively involved in lychee consumption.

In addition, the district focuses on the sale of lychee through e-commerce channels and social networks (estimated at 7,000 tons). Many cooperatives have participated in selling large quantities of lychees through social media and e-commerce platforms, such as: Luc Ngan Xanh Cooperative, Binh Nguyen Clean Agricultural Cooperative, Hong Agriculture – Production and General Service Trading Cooperative. Xuan, Hoang Vu Clean Agricultural Cooperative…

In particular, this year Luc Ngan has brought innovations in the organization of communication events on the theme of lychee, which have made an impression and attracted the attention of a large number of people who visit the garden and buy products there. Mr. Ngo Van Hung, Cau Den Village, Thanh Hai Township said, “My family has more than 2 hectares of lychee produced under GlobalGAP standards. Now the family has sold more than 2 tons but didn’t have to lug baskets there anymore. Market for sale but mainly sold to tourists and patrons who order as gifts at a higher price than at the weigh point”.

Similarly, Giap Son Agricultural Production – Ecotourism Cooperative in Chao Hamlet (Giap Son Municipality) worked with Phuc Lam Trading and Service Co., Ltd. together to bring 20 tons of lychee to market in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City as well as tourists come to shop in the garden.

According to Mr. Nguyen The Thi, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Luc Ngan District: Under the motto of giving importance to all markets, Luc Ngan District has implemented many solutions to promote consumption and promote products, such as: selling lychee on domestic and foreign markets and invites dealers, large companies and stove owners to participate in consumption and processing.

This year, for the first time, Luc Ngan organized a tourist activity in the lychee season, opening a new consumption channel and direction. Photo: Nguyen Huong.

At the same time, create the most favorable conditions for people, companies, organizations and individuals involved in the processing and consumption of lychee. Actively forming delegations to investigate, research market and connect trade in Guangxi and Yunnan provinces (China); to survey and exchange information at wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province. Pay attention to propaganda so that people strictly comply with the requirements and standards for harvesting, pre-processing and packaging of products before selling …

In addition to the positive results achieved, Luc Ngan lychee is still mainly exporting fresh fruit at present, some are processed in cans, juiced and dried, the performance and quality of processing is still not good. They match the potential and benefits. The ability of county and provincial enterprises and cooperatives to approach, negotiate and sign cooperation agreements to export lychee to foreign markets is still limited. If these limitations are overcome, it is certain that the lychee consumption market will be more sustainable and stable in the following seasons.
