Pork price is expected to increase from August 2023
According to VCBS, in 2016-2022, Vietnamese tend to switch to higher quality meats such as beef, poultry and seafood, causing pork consumption to decline.
The reason lies in the continuous increase in per capita income in Vietnam of 3-9%; from $2,761/person/year in 2016 to $4,100/person/year in 2022.
However, pork is still an ingredient in many traditional Asian dishes, so the downward trend will moderate to some extent.
According to forecasts by the OECD, Vietnam will rank second in Asia (after China) in pork consumption with a CAGR of 3.1% in the period 2022-2030.
Fitch Solution also predicts that the growth rate of pork consumption in Vietnam will increase to 25% in the period 2018-2026. By 2026, the average pork consumption in Vietnam will be 31 kg/person.
According to VCBS, the price of pork is likely to continue its recovery trend from the second half of 2023. Accordingly, the price will rise again around August 2023 when supply decreases and purchasing power increases again. As a result, pig farm profit margins have improved by 6-14% over the years.
