Youth sports tournaments are popular in most major US cities. Sports teams on the go now include everything from soccer to softball and volleyball to cheerleading. Team leaders and organizers often face the challenge of where to place their team. Unless reservations are made well in advance, hotels and motels are almost always fully booked. In addition, there is a lack of youth-friendly premises that these events need so that kids and teens feel comfortable. Youth sports organizers are increasingly choosing holiday homes for away activities, competitions and tournaments for their teams.

Proximity to tournament venues

Holiday homes are often just as conveniently located to tournament and sports venues as hotels and motels. For children, young people and event leaders/organisers, being just minutes away from where events are taking place can be a crucial factor. Such homes are not only located near arenas, ball parks and convention centers, but are often just minutes away from the main entertainment attractions that allow children, teenagers and their protégés to relax.

There’s no place like home

Tournament organizers and team managers are discovering that holiday homes can be very convenient for youth sports teams. Many of these homes have children’s bunk rooms, two or three sets of bunk beds and two trundle beds, providing the added convenience of allowing many children to share the same bedroom. Some four bedroom cottages can sleep up to 16 people. And most have a sofa bed in the family room that can sleep two more people.

Entertainment for children, young people and their protégés

Many holiday homes are designed to keep children, teenagers and their charges entertained, something they need after a day of physically and mentally challenging competition. These households usually have smart TVs, action-packed gaming systems such as X-Box, DVD players, foosball, Netflix and WiFi access for smartphones, tablets and laptops. Such connectivity options also help keep everyone updated on local tournament activity and sporting events around the world.

Pools, spas and BBQs

After a hard day of testing and tough challenges, kids, teenagers and their protégés need to relax. In vacation homes, guests can do something they typically can’t do in a hotel or motel—cook hot dogs, burgers, or steaks on a grill in the privacy of their own backyard. No waiting for available grills or sharing yard space with stranger hotel/motel guests. Each home usually has a large outdoor dining table and chairs and a comfortable seating area. Most homes also have an in-ground, private, fenced-in pool and a relaxing spa or hot tub. Here adults can de-stress with their classmates while teenage swimmers can practice their techniques, again in the privacy of people they know.

Three square meals

When staying in a holiday home, guests can enjoy healthy, affordable meals for children and teenagers three times a day. Unlike hotels and motels that offer inflexible menus, most vacation homes allow guests to create unique meals that suit their teams’ health and taste preferences. Each home features full kitchens with stainless steel appliances (dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, and double oven), granite countertops, and large breakfast bars. Kitchens are also stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, cookware, dishes, silverware, even kitchen towels and paper towels – just like at home.

Economic cleaning services

Youth sports teams can be tough with clothing and uniforms. Hotel/motel laundry service can be very expensive for a whole team. Most cottages have a washer and dryer for economic convenience indoors. Cleaning up after children and teens can also be a chore, which is why most households also offer housekeeping services.
